I consider digital culure to be a term given to those in society that rely on digital electronics. Smilar to digital electronics there are two states, on or off. The 20th century could be considered the century of the petro chemical culture and there became a point where everybody was part of it, more or less. The same will \ is happening with digital culture. To be honest I think the term is a bit grandiose.

Whether we see ourselves as part of this culture or apart from it, no life is untouched by globalised 21st century communications technology. But, will our digital culture evolve for good or evil? Will our “digital culture” be challenged as all cultures have always been in a quest for progress? Digital Culture is a dangerous label, because it tends to mark our cultural contexts as overly new and disconnected somehow with what existed before the digital - which generally gets taken to mean the internet. While I concur that the role of digitally-enabled networks is hugely important in our culture, I think the fetishisation of the digital needs to be carefully examined. I think it's almost time to drop the digital part of 'digital culture', just as it's almost time to drop the 'e' part of elearing!

Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

Today, in the United States as in other countries populated largely by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country. (according to www.livescience.com). So can we speak of One Digital culture? Or is every group, community, tribe creating their own? What are the characteristics of the edcmooc group? Will our digital capabilities create a new more global culture? Or will it influence our (non-digital) culture. In what way is being "invisible" as a person in digital confrontations/communications affecting the development of a digital culture? What are movies like Avatar and the Matrix learning us about this subject..You see it and experience it when you are digital??

I wonder if digital culture is different from culture in general. I heard a talk by Gary Bailey on cultural competence. He suggested that on a continuum of cultural competency, once can never arrive at proficiency....and most of us live in the "blindness" or "pre-competence" realm. At the fast pace of change in digital culture, I think I would be lucky to arrive at pre-competence.
