While I wasn't here for the actual presentation; I heard that your presentation was super insightful on Korean American owned businesses. You mentioned that D'avant, rather than a traditional bakery, uses a 'drive thru' tactic that allows customers to come and go quickly while Mocha utilizes a home-y atmosphere to attract customers and Leah appeals more towards aesthetics. Based off your Padlet, your analysis on how cafes (specifically Korean American owned) is super interesting because even though the culture/ background the people who own the place may be the same, it shows how these places have adapted differently compared to each other.

I like that you acknowledged the different kinds of cafes on Broad Ave in Pal Park and even accounted for the different locations of the cafes. I think location of the cafes was important to consider because although all the restaurants, cafes, stores, etc. are all on the same street, their popularity definitely changes based off where on the street they are on. Additionally, I liked the organization of the presentation, where you answered the data analysis questions one by one and going into interpretation for each cafe. Overall really good!

I liked how you compared 3 different, yet very similar, bakeries. And even though all three bakeries are close, there were still many differences. I found it interesting that even though each bakery was originally a Korean one, all three bakeries seem to focus on having at least some English. It did seem like the bakeries had owners who didn't seem to speak much English, as shown by how you mentioned some of the translations were a little bit off.

I really enjoyed your analysis. I liked how you highlighted how the cafes that you mentioned use both Korean and English to make spaces welcoming while keeping its original culture. I also really liked how you explained that’s each cafe has its own style and focus. Also including the part when you said some menu items staying only in Korean was good since there are a lot of restaurants in broad Ave that don’t really branch out towards a bigger audience aka non Koreans. The presentation was overall very detailed and thorough and pinpointed parts that were crucial.

I like that you point out that the culture is preserved within these cafes. Catering to two different cultural groups can be difficult, and businesses have to maintain a good balance to ensure that they do not alienate one cultural group for the other. While they use Korean flavors and heavy Korean influences, they are still doing business in America, and especially as Koreans and Korean-Americans become firmly rooted in America and its communities, businesses need to adapt.

I enjoyed this presentation on different cafes in Palisades Park. I thought you had a good, detailed analysis on the 3 cafes. I like that you choice cafes that are all popular in the area yet they differ in their own ways. There was a consistent overview for each cafe which felt nice when comparing the romanization, size of korean texts, translation, overall feel of the cafe, etc. Based on my personal experience and friends who've worked there, I thought this was pretty accurate analysis. It was eye opening to see these differences side-by-side, I never thought of that.

I enjoyed the detailed analysis of cafes on Broad Avenue. The presentation was very data-heavy, and I found the comparison of the three similar cafes to be insightful. As someone who has been to all three, I definitely agree with your analysis and found the information to be particularly valuable.
