Vince:
They all had trained field field agents to address the noncompliance and their agents were prepared for it.
Erik:
Jennifer Sizemore has a lot of health care experience and she was an asset to them as they went through in terms of messaging. The had a good relationship with the county. They had to create a virtual joint information center instead of a physical one. That training for the joint information center was helpful in creating the virtual one. There were suggestions that they did convene a physical MACC. If they had the resources to do that it would have been possible, but it did not make sense for a logistical point of view.
Jennifer:
They had a lot of good relationships in place and it really helped that they were not trying to figure out who they were going to work with, those relationships were already in place. She relied heavily on Erik and Stacy during the pandemic. They had the benefit of still being where their resources were, which was the benefit of being virtual.

Cara Clarke:
What was the right information? what was the right thing to do? They needed to understand what things meant and what the steps are.
Patrick Walker:
For the first 6 months, they had trouble getting all information out there in Spanish. They realized that there was still a language barrier as the pandemic set in.
Jennifer:
Getting out the right information and making sure the messaging was correct. From 5AM until late in the evening, they had nonstop inquiries from everywhere. It was like nothing she had ever experienced. They were also changing their services so they still needed to get that information out to the public as well.

Stacy:
They were able to create PSAs through their Channel 4 news station and that partnership helped them get a lot of information out to the public. They were also able to update that information regularly.
Cara Clarke:
Commissioner Kirkpatrick deserves accolades for his leadership and bringing everyone together. Starting with his daily calls. Their approach was about bringing everyone to the table. The relationships that had already been established helped to keep the business community together.
Erik Pappa:
The saw conflicting messaging coming out of Washington.
Jennifer:
the state set the guidelines for the response.

Erik:
Insufficient staffing. They have been short staffed for years and the pandemic made it worse.
Jennifer:
They had people taking over different jobs in terms of messaging and it made them more short staffed. There was not funding to be able to address that problem.
Stacy:
Call centers are always a challenge, especially when it needs to be bilingual. They did connect the call takers to 211.

Cara Clarke:
People were hungry for accurate information, and being a credible, accurate source for information allowed for hundreds of people to log into their meetings and it was beneficial.
Jennifer:
Holding regular media updates. It was a bit of a challenge to keep them going, though. Also, incorporating that information into their social media and providing requested information on social media helped keep down the questions and kept the burden off of staff.
Stacy:
They were able to pull bullets out of those news releases and incorporate them into social media posts, and the news releases set the tone for what was going on.
Erik:
They had a full time social media person prior to the pandemic and they leveraged that by sharing lots of health district postings to help spread that information. However, he was just one person and they will be adding another social media person soon.
