In order to increase engagement in my class during word lines, I am generating sentences or definitions where the students have 5 seconds to read the wordlines and then share with the class the correlating word. This is both helping increase engagement but also allowing students to better apply new concepts to their spelling and reading.

This is my class and I practicing and using the "whispering into hands" management technique. We had a lot of trouble with blurting out answers when it wasn't our turn, or felt unheard if we were not called upon. As a result, this was a great strategy for us to use as a class to fix said issues!

Halle Zuiderveen Flip artifact

Flip is an online resource, where students can make videos. I use flip in order to support my students in responding to new concepts we are learning in reading. You can post a topic in flip and share that link to your google classroom, so they can easily access it. You can also set time limits, and students can add text and change backgrounds.

I have been using the pom pom jar to increase engagement in my classroom and motivate students to work together to earn an incentive as a whole class. They love to see what color pom pom they will earn and work hard to earn their reward.

Engagement tool for my preschool class during Heggerty. I select one student after each Heggerty lesson to hold the stuffed animals the following day. The student is participating and trying their best during our lesson. It has greatly increased my participation and engagement during this time!

To build relationships between peers and peers and student and teachers, students have practice you break it you fix it. This has helped students take responsibility for their actions and think before they break things they did not make.

In my class, I incorporated slides during our phonics practice. I have seen an increase in engagement, their fluency with reading and their remembrance of sight words. I also incorporated a routine of when we learn certain practices. This routine has helped us cover everything we are focusing on and it has created smooth transitions through our phonics time.
