Background Reading:

Energy is the ability to cause change or do work. There are two main types of mechanical energy:

Kinetic Energy is the energy of motion. Anything that moves — a rolling ball, a flying bird, or a speeding car — has kinetic energy.

Potential Energy is stored energy based on position or condition. A stretched rubber band, a raised book, or water behind a dam all have potential energy because they have the potential to move.

Energy can change forms — when a ball rolls down a hill, potential energy at the top becomes kinetic energy as it moves. This constant transformation keeps our world in motion! Find or describe one real-life example that shows both kinetic and potential energy.
