Thomas Newman, born October 20th, 1955 was raised in a household full of music. His father, Alfred Newman, was a famous composer in his own right, creating famous soundtracks for several classic films in the middle and late 1900s. Alfred is even credited as the man responsible for the 20th Century Fox Theme. Thomas became inspired by his fathers work, but decided to originally work in musical theater. However that would change in 1979 as he was given work to score an episode from the television series, "Paper Chase". From there his career would sky rocket. In 1983 John Williams invited Thomas to work along him on return of the Jedi. By the 90s he had become an established composer working on classics such as "The Shawshank Redemption" earning himself his first of 15 academy award nominations. In the 2000s he had surpassed even his father, creating the soundtracks for films such as, Finding Nemo, The Lord of The Rings Films, And two James Bond installments.

Jerry Goldsmith was born on February 10, 1929 in Pasadena, CA and died July 21, 2004, in Beverly Hills. Goldsmith, who was nominated for six Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globe Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, and eighteen Academy Awards (winning in 1976 for The Omen) composed songs for Mulan, Planet of the Apes, The Universal Logo score, Gremlins, and many others.
He started playing piano at 6 and by the time he was 16, he was studying both music theory and counterpoint under Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. He was inspired by film composer Mikolos Rozas after watching the 1945 movie Spellbound, to pursue a career in music. His first main song that he received high recognition for was an intimate score to the western movie, Lonely are the Brave. He then made a score for the movie Freud, which earned him his first academy award nomination for best original score. He also had two more globe nominations for his scores in Seven Days in May and The Sand Pebbles. In 1968 he attained large recognition for his score of The Planet of the Apes featuring a string section initiating suspense into the scene.

He then earned more critical praise when he scored the music for the 1970 WW2 biopic Patton. His main theme consisted of a pipe organ which is used to signify the Soldiers very religious and militaristic background. Shortly After, he composed a dark score for the movie, The Omen which was the first avant garde score to use a choir. This score won him his first and only golden globe award for best original score. He later went on to do the scores for the first and many after Star Trek Movies and composed the Universal Logo score, which despite new arrangement by Brian Tyler, is still used today.
