I learned that the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire was one of the deadliest in US history. This is where the importance of fire escape ladders comes from, because there was a whole floor of women who burned. This affected our country immensely and we still see the impact whenever you see ladders and fire safety equipment in buildings.

She would use hatchets and destroy everything in saloons to get her point across about the Temperance Movement. Carry was a very powerful woman, and she did things that not a lot of people were brave enough to do.

Life on the frontier was lonely. Water was rare, but clothes and diapers still had to be washed, gardens watered, meals prepared, and houses/children kept clean. The survival of many families depended on the income women could bring in through the production of clothing, soap, candles, and food. Women were finally starting to be recognized as able to work. People were starting to realize that women are as capable as men.

Frances Willard, the President of the WCTU, urged members to fight against alcohol and moral reform, and to fight for women's suffrage. The WCTU was originally organized by Protestant women, but there were over 200,000 members by the end of the 1800's. This was a major force behind the 18th amendment (banned alcohol). The WCTU fought for many things that we might not have today without it. We have laws in place to help keep us safe when we've been drinking. Women have the option, the privilege and the freedom to vote.
