- Monks made massive monuments and buildings on there
- The Vikings raided in Viking long boats and killed lots of monks.  they wanted their treasure 
- The first monastery was built by a monk called Aidan for the first Saxon king who turned Christian
- Vikings weren't Christian so they didn't worry about killing the monks
