I hated the required reading for school, especially reading logs. Those were definitely a pain. Sometimes I would just write down a random book and page number and have either my mom or dad sign it, so I wouldn’t get in trouble for it the next day or end of the week. I want to say around high school is when I definitely got into reading, but I wasn’t reading as many books as I would like to, I still hated it but not as much as I did in elementary school. Then I was finally in college and I would bring a book with me everyday to class and it was a new book most of the time. Then in 2020 the pandemic hit, and I was stuck in my house with nothing to do, so I turned to reading and probably read like 6 or 7 book series, maybe even more during that time of boredom. Even though now I’m back in school and doing in person classes, I read when I can. The last book I read was Redeemed the ‘ Dirty Air Series ‘ by Laruen Asher and that was at the beginning of November.

SPECIAL SAUCE

For my special sauce I ended up doing a short questionnaire and sent those to my book friends and non book friends because I wanted to specifically see what my non book friends would choose. Most of them ended up choosing WHAT appealed to them and some of that was romance/fiction and some were horror / thriller and like one of was nonfiction. And my friends that do read says “ I like to read romance because of the happy ending that the book gets “ or the ones who read horror say “ i like the whole suspension that it gives me when I read not knowing what is going to happen next “

My original art is a stack of books because I find how books can inspire people to read but also a few people to dislike reading because they think it's boring, but reading can also take you out of reality for a while and transport you into the world that you are reading about.

What I found during my research is that a certain audience reads their preferred genres because it brings them comfort and they also feel safe while reading, romance genre brings them a happy and loving ending or a plot twist where the female character ends up with someone else who isn’t the person they begun with, as to horror/ thriller brings them suspense and curiosity wanting to know what would happen to said character would they “ die” or “ survive”. Because authors have the most difficult task of all time and that is what kind of content they want that book to contain, the where, the what, and who is in. And most of the time authors will also genre-blend to add more flavor, authors write because they enjoy to make their fandom happy,wanting them to keeping reading and to continue with the storyline but there’s also the fact that not many people nowadays don’t read because life, responsibilities takes effect in our lives and they simply don’t have the time to pick up a book and sit down read, most have kids, jobs etc that they need to attend too, maybe they would love to it’s just the matter of time and what’s going on but simply the don’t have time and also they may not like to read because of how long the book is or even how long the chapters are, and they don’t have the attention span to sit for a long period of time. Sometimes people just grow out of the love for reading because maybe they think reading is “ nerdy” or “ lame “ as they grow up or their friends make fun of them for being a bookworm so they completely stop reading in order to fit in the crowd and to not get made fun of.
