1) The Gospel is the Word of God. It is about the life of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, His ministry, death, and resurrection. He suffered a horrendous death on the cross. He died for my sins so that I would be forgiven, and He rose from the dead and is alive today.

If you believe in Him and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour, you are a child of God and you will never regret your decision.

(2) I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour because He sacrificed His life on the cross to wash away my sins and now, I am a born-again Christian. I have eternal life and I am certain I will meet my Lord and Saviour and all my loved ones when He calls me Home.

(3) On Wednesday, 25th July 1962, a church friend came to our Geylanghouse to share the Gospel with my brother, Raymond Teo. He confessed his sins and received Christ.

Later that evening, he shared with me and I, too, received Christ. I thought I was already a Christian since I came from a Christian home, but I learnt that unless I accepted Christ personally, I was not. I was 13 years old then and in Secondary 1, in my beloved school, GeylangMethodist Girls' School. Many happy memories are still etched in my mind, and I will always remember all my very dear teachers. I still keep in touch with some of my former classmates.

Thanks be to God! All glory to Him!

Blessings to all,

Rosemary Teo

Class of 1965.

I was exposed to Christianity through my grandma, grandaunt, Christian neighbours , Christian teachers like Mrs Yeo at GMGS and of course my Geylang Methodist Church peers.

However, I did not walk close with God and did not even know Jesus personally as my Lord and saviour. When I started to work in the police department, that was the time I was too busy to attend church and backslided. Yet God in His mercy and grace, sent me a group of christian police officers to surround me. I knew it was no coincidence as they were in the same police station and same team with me! Slowly, I joined their Police Christian Fellowship and that was the beginning of my call to serve God full time.

So, when I retired at age 45, I went to serve in the mission field in China.

This journey was another miracle as I was very poor in Mandarin and yet, heeded the call to serve in China. I have learned that God's strength and power would manifest when his people are weak and trust in Him. Indeed, I am humbled by His love and mercy.

"But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong" (1Cor 1:27)

Praise God! His name be glorified!

From Ruby Eng, GMGS 1960-1969

I am Molly Teo, graduated in 1972. Been with the school for 10 years as a student in GMGS from 1963-1972.

I came from a Christian family and attended Sunday school since young. I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in 1967 when I was in Primary 5. I was blessed to be in GMGS as I had a mentor, Ms Rosalind Tan Cheng Kim who did one-to-one Bible study with me. She happened to be my neighbour in Circuit Road.

After I became a Christian, I joined the Christian Fellowship in GMGS. Rosalind was 3 years my senior and happened to be an active member in CF. We had Bible Study on a weekly basis. I would go to her house on the fifth floor (I stayed on the 10th floor). I am thankful to God for her consistent nurturing and her patience and guidance.

Together with Catherine Kok Ah Lui, my classmate and neighbour too(she lived on the 2nd floor), we would go to school together in the morning and Rosalind became my role-modeI in my Christian walk. Her gentleness, patience and godly behaviour helped me to see the change in my life. I praise God for her. I became bolder in my faith and even shared with Catherine Kok who later accepted Christ.

In her later years, Catherine became a church worker. Catherine is here today. I wish that Rosalind is here too. “It only takes a spark to get a fire going” is so true. GMGS had helped Rosalind to ignite the spark in me. I, in return, became that spark to ignite others. The environment in GMGS – the Chapel service, devotion and the Christian Fellowship further helped me in my walk with the Lord.

Glory to the Lord!

From Molly Teo (Mrs Molly Soong)

I found the reason n purpose for my existence on earth. The school invited a group of young people to our Thursday chapel/worship period in the school hall. One of them shared on anger issues, circumstances n occasions that Jesus got angry etc. I wanted to know who this man (Jesus) was and how he was able to control his anger. Always felt very curious whenever I’m asked to pray during morning devotion. I enjoyed the chapel session and Wednesday long chapel sessions whenever the teachers have contact time.

When I was in primary 6 in 2001, a group of Christian teachers formed the Teens Alive session every Saturday afternoon. It was my first time attending something like a Sunday school.

I look forward to going for it after my cca session every Saturday as it is the closest thing I could go to that’s like a church (my parents were non Christians then).

I enjoyed the sessions a lot and it was really my source of strength as it was my PSLE year. I rmb having teachers connecting with me and sharing about Jesus and praying together with me.

I first prayed the sinners prayer in teens alive.

I graduated to GMSS and continued to have the privilege to hear about the teachings of God.

When I was in Sec 4, my teacher invited me to her church. Although I didn’t continue at her church, it was a stepping stone for me to take the step to ask permission from my parents to attend church weekly.

I started attending church regularly since o levels.

What about the gospel that I believe:

When I was told that I had a creator who created me, I thought long and hard about it. As I look at myself thoroughly convinced that I am too well ‘organised’ and ‘orchestrated’ to exist by chance. And it made sense to me that the one who created me should own me and have full governance of me. And with that comes the understanding that I have sinned by rejecting that governance.

Why I decide to accept Christ:

The thought of God being a human being to take my place, the reality of Christ’s existence and His death for me, and when I realised that all these was not some remote history totally irrelevant to me but instead on the contrary has everything to do with me, I decided to accept Jesus as my personal Lord and saviour.

When and how:

It was in March 1972 during the holy/religious week. One afternoon during that week, I went home and listened to a song ‘Who Am I’ (someone in the house was playing the album, I stayed with my Christian relative)

“Who am I that the king should bleed and die for,

Who am I that He should pray not my will, Thy Lord

I wonder what I could have done

            To deserve God’s only Son

That to an old rugged cross He’d go for

            Who am I?”

Ya, I thought to myself; Who am I??? And with a grateful heart I went on my knees and gave this life back to my creator who rightfully owns me

What is it about the gospel that you believe?

I believe that God is the creator of the universe and everything in it. I believe that He is the Creator/Maker of lives loves the people that he made that He gave His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the Christ as an expression of His love. That Jesus rose from the dead, to show us that we will have an eternal life with God.

Why did you accept Christ as Lord and Savior?

I believe I have sin and that every day of my life manifested in different ways (envy, pride, anger, etc) I have sinned. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ manifested the Power of God over sin and death and it is through the saving Grace of God through the Holy Spirit that i am being refined every day till Jesus comes back again.

When did you accept Christ as Lord and Saviour?

I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour in secondary school, during chapel in 1975. I was convicted of my sin as I remember how easily I can be angry with good friend that I would gossip about her so that I get other friends on my side. I also remembered that I was displaying selfish attitude by not sharing notes nor help people in need. I have always thought that I was a good girl and friend but the above were not characters of a good person, but I had caused hurts and strife between friends and classmates. When I recalled these behaviours, I know I have sinned. I asked the Lord to come into my life and change me and I know I am dependent on God’s Grace to refine me day by day till He comes back again. Thank God for coming into my life to save a sinner such as i!

Ng Bee Keng

Class of 1976

Geylang MGS

This is My Father’s World

Chapel was a time students sat through a series of sermons and songs. One that had left an indelible mark on me was a hymn led by a Christian worker by the name of Grace. I never had a personal encounter with her. I never spoke a word with her. But I remember her vividly because of how she had channeled the truths in this song to all of my senses through her simple worshipful singing. She was fair and had a head full of bouncy curls. In her quiet and yet jaunty way, she would sing,

This is my father’s world,

O let me ne’er forget,

that though the wrong seems oft so strong,

God is the ruler yet.

This song, its music, its words continued lingering in my mind like an automatic tape recorder through my secondary years. And even to this day, its words speak to my heart through the different seasons of my life and take me close to my heavenly father’s throne.

An occasion I recalled some time back was when I was jogging along the East Coast Park. In my sweat and toil, this hymn so subtly but abruptly found its way to my lips, reverting my eyes from my heaviness to all surrounding me in my Father’s world. Sweat turned peace. Toil became joy. I’m thankful for what I’ve been given.

Jessica Teo (1985 Batch)

“Never ever become a Christian, if you do, I will knock your head!” That was the exact warning that my uncle gave me when I told him that I would be going to a mission school. That warning fortified my naive belief that the Christian religion belongs to the westerners, not something that is culturally appropriate for us, ethnic Chinese.

However, that fortification began to crack when I came across the gospel through chapels and morning devotions shared by Christian teachers in GMSS. It slowly made its way to my logical mind and also my heart, since I always struggled with the fact that I am not good enough and cannot reform my bad behaviour. That stubborn defense against accepting this truth took the final straw and began to crumble and fall when I went through the most traumatic experience in Secondary 2.

My fellow classmate and friend suffered a brain aneurysm and was sent to the emergency room right before my eyes. After three days, my school principal broke the tragic news to the entire school that my friend had passed on. This struck me to the core as I wondered how such a young life can be cut short so suddenly. Where is he now? Where will his soul be?

It was days later that I received a telephone call from another classmate regarding whether I would like to receive Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. Surprisingly, I told him that I just did, on my own accord I had prayed to God my Creator and told him to receive me as His child. The call from my friend was not a coincidence, God had answered my prayer and had prompted my friend to call me. That was the turning point that I began to attend a youth fellowship and experience my new life in Christ. To God be the glory!

Chen Hao Rong
Class of 1984
Geylang Methodist Secondary School

(1) What about the Gospel that you believe?
The gospel can be summarized in a key verse from the Bible – John 3:16. It reads “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God created us and loves us. He desires to have a relationship with us. However, our relationship with GOD was disrupted when we sinned against Him. Sin not only damages our relationship with God but also affects our relationships with others. The Bible says that those who persist in sinning against GOD will face judgment and separation from God in the afterlife.
However, God still loves us and so He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to come on earth and die on the cross and take away the punishment of our sins.
By dying for us on the cross, Jesus provides a way for us to be reconciled to God and receive forgiveness for sin. When we acknowledge and turn away from our sins, and believe in Jesus Christ, we can experience and eternal life with God.

(2) Why you accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour?
I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour because He is “the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6).
The Way: Jesus is the only way through which I can come to GOD, receive forgiveness of sins and be saved.
The Truth: Through Jesus, we can discover truth: Truth about GOD, truth about the purpose of life, and how to cultivate a loving relationship with GOD.
The Life: Jesus offers abundant life to those who believe Him, a life characterized by a loving relationship with GOD, purpose and fulfillment.

(3) When and how you came to know the Lord - primary or secondary school days?
A close friend of mine from Geylang Methodist Secondary School (GMSS) had been sharing the gospel to me, but I kept rejecting him. However, one day, while I was preparing for the final examination, I found myself questioning why I didn’t believe in GOD. I had no answer, but I prayed and asked GOD to show Himself to me if He was real. A few days later, to my surprise, GOD heard and answered my prayer. On the Saturday of 10th October 1987, I accepted Jesus into my life as my Lord and Saviour. Ever since, I have been experiencing a relationship with GOD through the ups and downs of my life. I also have been looking forward to one day to see Jesus’s face to face!

He has a wonderful plan for me, but I have rejected his design and replaced his plan on my own and live my life without him. This rebellion is what we know as sin. The wage of sin is death (Romans 3:23) and I will be eternally separated from my loving Creator God at the Judgement Day. Thanks be to God that He loves us so much that Jesus came to show us the love of God by taking my death penalty upon himself; by dying on the cross for me. (John 3:16) I am redeemed, and I can have the forgiveness of Sin because of what Jesus did for me on the cross. Now I can again live according to his design/plan for me. That is the gospel. .. the Good News that I once was lost and now found… I am twice HIS.

(2) Why you accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour?
I accepted Christ as my Lord because He is my creator and I belong to him. I felt so alone as I had no help and was sinking into depression. Suddenly the verse “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love - 1 Corinthians 13:13” appeared in front of me. I realized I didn’t know about love and needed guidance. After speaking to a few Christian friends, I decided to open my mind (nothing to lose anyway) and bring my young family to church. Molly (ex-VP of GMS(P) was very kind to welcome my family warmly to her cell group. Finally, I was touched by God that despite I’m such a sinner, He still loves me.

(3) WHEN n HOW you came to know the Lord…primary/secondary school days
Mr Michael Koh planted the seed in me when I was Sec 1. However, coming from a non-Christian and traditional Chinese family, I was warned by my mother not to go to church and attend Bible study before school anymore. I stopped and everything went downhill at Sec 2. I went through lots of ups and downs in life. Thankfully, God doesn’t give up on me. By the grace of God, I accepted Christ in 2015. I’m counting my blessings, giving thanks, and paying it forward now.

From Pauline Lee, graduated from GMSS in 1997

(1) WHAT about the gospel that you believe
I believe that He is the Creator and has created me for a unique purpose! I am an individual who values efficiency and effectiveness in the tasks that I do and used to believe that God would want the same from me. But I learnt that the only thing He really desires is a heart of surrender — to acknowledge that I cannot do anything on my own without my Creator. He has done the finished work on the cross and all I have to do is to trust Him to lead me on the path He has for me.

(2) WHY you accepted Christ as Lord n Saviour
I experienced God's faithfulness and saw how He could turn all things for good — I did not achieve my desired PSLE grades, had an unsuccessful appeal to another school and did not get into my first choice of CCA. Despite not getting what I wanted, I realised on hindsight that all these were part of His plans to bring me to where I am today! I was convicted that no one can lead me like He does, hence I choose to accept Him as Lord and Saviour.

(3) When n how you came to know the Lord…primary/secondary school days.
I grew up in a Christian household, but never really experienced the faith for myself until I was in GMSS.

I was in secondary one when I first heard of the Lord Jesus Christ. The morning devotions, the Chapel, the prayers, were the routine that all of us as students had to go through. I never realised "Jesus Loves me", "This is my Father's world", "He's able", can be so real in my life all these years after I became a Christian back in Secondary 3. These were not simply songs we sang every day, but truths that set me free and free forever more. At that time, a classmate who was already a believer will catch hold of me and other classmates during recess, preaching to us the gospel of Jesus Christ. I accepted Christ, and soon we started a Christian fellowship, and began meeting regularly in the Rifle Range (basement of the school building back then in 1987). My little faith was built and grew stronger each day. From the fellowship, we became very good friends. After we graduated, we continued to grow in Friendship, body and mind. We grew our fellowship and eventually, few of us led in the youth ministry, and young adult ministry in church. Although some of us has gone astray, but we can never forget the fond memories in GM, the friendship we forged, the songs we sang, the Chapel, the morning devotions, and the Rifle Range. To God Be The Glory.

Sylvia Chee (1985-1988)

(1) WHAT about the gospel that you believe

We are lost and distracted by sins on earth, and God our Lord is our good shepherd. He died for us and took on our sins. With love, grace, and mercy from our creator, we live beyond flesh and distractions. When God is with us, there is no fear. With the fruit of the Holy Spirit, life is no longer the same as we are image-bearers of the Lord now.

(2) WHY you accepted Christ as Lord n Saviour

It is a funny story. I was a rebellious child with pride and ego since I was young haha. I was also a skeptic honestly and I only bet my chances with praying to God during difficult times in life. Not only 1 God but many "Gods". You name it, the Thai-faced Buddha, Guan-yin, 21 different statues and animals in the temple.....and even some possessed spirits recommended by my friends. With my curious nature, I would often "test" how real they are. Truly some supernatural things happened and made me believe in a creator beyond human.

You see, our world is so beautiful and delicate in design. How every cell, every electron, and every life that has formed. They are too beautiful to happen by chance, and we are the only living thing with the idea of shame without clothes (hahaha you see monkies you'll get it).

As a photography enthusiast, how every bird every feather, every sunrise, and moon set made me wonder: HOW did things find their order? What is beyond the universe?

There must be something out there.

BUT WHICH IS THE ONE TRUE GOD???

I formed poor opinions about Christians due to human behaviors and bad representations of God. To a certain extent, I was even judgemental about it.

I was challenged to pray to God when I was 29 and I thought my life had been awesome. Things changed since then. God has revealed to me in many ways (too many to describe). They left me in awe and I came to know the living God eventually. I learned to surrender myself, my arrogance, and my biased opinions.

Day by day bit by bit, faith has been strengthened. Although still being tested and probably many more to come. But I know we are weak and lost, without God there is only darkness.

(3) WHEN n HOW you came to know the Lord…primary/secondary school days

I first learned about Him in my secondary school days, never serious, just knowing that they were part of school practices.

I first considered and pondered about seeking God was sec 2 when I failed my math exam haha. Then I failed again, so I thought God must not be real.

The next try was in my late teens, friends pulled me along to some youth camp, were there for fun and didn't manage to learn about God, and formulated the idea that " people go to church for fun and entertainment only".

Was Godless for the longest time and was convinced to dislike the idea of Christianity in life.

Finally, i received Christ a year ago and that was the best choice i have made in my life.

Most importantly, looking back in my life, God was always there for me, carried me, and was patient with me. I used to ask people, " if your God desires your praise and wants people to glorify him, isn't he too superficial?"

Then I realized when you came to know God, you just wanted to do it from within, knowing how we were loved.
