Language is political, and this seems like a key issue to ensure educational equity for Black students, which is long overdue.

Yes, we learn through dialogue and Ebonics also surfaces historical processes that the community has experienced. It has a phonetic component and structure. I think it can also be considered a pidgin language. It recognizes people’s identity which is key in overall social and linguistic processes.

Black language has been stigmatized by various “isms”, as the video said. But there are legitimate grammatical structures in this language that are found in other languages that don’t face the same scrutiny.

We also can not ignore the cultural influence black language has had on American English at large. Black language is found in so much American artistic pride; music, poems, storytelling, and social media.
