Canyons relate to the erosion and weathering phase of the geologic process. Usually canyons are created through the flow of water over long periods of time. They start out as a flat plain but then the area that is more susceptible to erosion and weathering.

Cliffs usually exist at the edge leading into the sea or water. But they can also form within canyons. They wouldn't necessarily be the safest but I think it would be the best/most fun. The safest spot in a canyon to explore in would be the crevasse.

The grand canyon has numerous cliffs in it. It couldn't be without any with its massive size. Another place is in one of the pictures I posted. The Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon has cliffs as well as a beautiful grassy terrain mixed in with it. This provides a unique serene experience. That is always important on long getaway dates.
