Chapter 6 is all about making your classroom and equity to all students in your classroom. The chapter specifically mentions students with moderate/severe disabilities and culturally/linguistically diverse students. I personally had already seen both videos before this week. I also worked with children with autism (mild, moderate and severe) and I absolutely loved every moment. I think it is really important for people to understand what autism really means. There are a lot of misconceptions and I think the first step to making your classroom equity leveled is erasing those misconceptions from your mind. It's important to be making your classroom diverse and fitting the needs of all of your children; whether they have a disability or not.

The videos gave me the message that as a teacher, I need to beware of the needs of all of my students. Being aware that early intervention for Autism will be a benefit for the child so as a teacher being aware of the triggers is very important for early detection. Differentiating instruction is going to be a must in any classroom and I liked the Menus approach the teacher used in the last video it helps us as teachers get an insight of how to create these effective centers. Chapter 6 was full of strategies to meet the needs of all learners: special needs, English language learners, students with disabilities, and our gifted students. A future application will be understanding my students, getting to know them culturally, and being able to provide support for them always so that they can aim high to reach their fullest potential.

Jennifer MaraThe video connects to the chapter regarding the importance of creating curriculum that provides equal opportunity for all students. This means that students who are considered to be “not typically developing” need to be provided an equal opportunity for education as their “typically developing” peers. The chapter mentions students with special needs and students who are English language learners; both groups of which deserve to be “taught to” as well as everyone else in the classroom.
