“The inclusive potential of digital games in school”
Lecturer: Natalie Denk

Children and young people today are enthusiastic about digital games. With good reason, as they open up numerous spaces for experience, social contacts and learning. Thanks to the multifaceted nature of the medium, different assistive devices and approaches, many people with physical or mental disabilities also enjoy immersing themselves in digital game worlds and can play on an equal level with their fellow players, either against or with each other.

In a lecture, participants will get an introduction to the topic of gaming and inclusion in the school context. Questions will be answered such as: What characterises an accessible digital game? How can people with disabilities be actively involved in gaming projects at school? What frameworks and equipment are required in this context? What challenges do people with disabilities face in digital gaming worlds? In addition, ideas for teaching methods around the topic will be conveyed.

Following the lecture, special gaming devices, games or methods can be tried out in a hands-on phase.

"The RPG Maker as a teaching tool"
Lecturer: Simon Wimmer

The RPG Maker is an engine in which playable digital worlds can be created in a short time. The presentation shows the basic functions of the RPG Maker. There will be several examples of how such games can be used in the classroom. On the one hand as a story-telling tool, where interactive decisions cause different feedback. But also examples of how knowledge can be transferred on a more abstract level through game mechanics. Finally, there will be given some food for thought on how the RPG Maker could also be used by students and how a learning effect can be achieved in various areas through the independent creation of games.
After the presentation, which is intended to arouse interest, ideas and enthusiasm, there will be a hands-on phase in which ideas for manageable mini-projects will be collected in the form of a workshop, which will then be implemented, with providing assistance at any time if needed.
