The theme in The story of Prometheus and Pandora's box is "sacrifice and suffering". Prometheus was willing to sacrifice his life for mankind, without a doubt. He was alright with being punished by Jupiter, as long as mankind was happy. Throughout the story, hope is still represented, as Prometheus was always an ally of human beings, and Pandora didn't release the worst of the creatures from the box, as she quickly closed it

Prometheus, a titan, and his brother, Epimetheus, weren't imprisoned like other titans. Prometheus didn't want to live on Mount Olympus, but help mankind instead below Mount Olympus. He wanted to give humans fire after seeing their state of depression. Jupiter didn't support this idea. Despite Jupiter's thoughts, Prometheus "stole" fire from Jupiter, and brought it back to man. He taught man many skills and brought them into a new Golden Age. Jupiter was angered by this, and wanted to punish Prometheus and mankind for this. He sent Pandora, gifted with beauty and curiosity, with a golden casket to Greece so she could be Epimetheus's wife. Athena warned Pandora not to open the casket. Her curiosity drowned Athena's words, and she released thousands of dark creatures when she opened it. The creatures brought sadness to mankind. Jupiter believed that this was a good form of punishment.
