I don't know that I ever go to YouTube and search for a video. That said, I tend to google things, and end up at YouTube. Professionally, I use videos to help students access ideas, concepts, and materials that we don't have access to in the classroom. Personally, I often use "how to" videos to accomplish a task.

I have used YouTube mainly for school but also for home projects. For school I have used it to search videos mainly for social studies topics or if I’m trying to find a less-boring hook to teach a grammar skill. I used YouTube in remote learning to add videos for our lessons we taught for social studies and a read aloud novel. Personally I have used YouTube for home improvement projects or craft projects. Last year I added some trim to my house, so YouTube showed me how I could do that. Most recently I got a pallet from gravel delivered to our house so youtube helped me create a planter for my herbs in the backyard! I do think you can go down a rabbit-hole with YouTube and one video leads to the next! It’s always giving me new ideas of things I can do in my house!

Before this spring I typically used YouTube in various ways other than as a teaching tool. I often search for new music - lyrics or videos. How-Tos various at home fixes, and learning about new products. I often peer over the shoulder of my son - he watches many Youtube videos on basketball and follows several athletes. In one WU class I explored several Booktubers. This spring I just started to explored creating my own channel and posting videos I made for lessons. I searched for and found several lessons around grammar, read alouds, and writing mini lessons. I pulled ideas from several of these to create a few of my own videos.

Up to this point I've used YouTube to house video I've created so that I can distribute it via link to those who would be using it - though the "those" rarely included students! If this fall sees some sort of remote/hybrid situation, I'd like to begin using YouTube as a channel destination for students/families.

I also use YouTube whenever I have a question about how to do something - I learn by looking for sure. One of my favorite YouTube uses was helping my dad close the hood of his Subaru when the latch loosened and then iced over - apparently this was a known issue and a few squirts of WD40 later, he was back in business. Thanks, YouTube!

I started uploading videos consistently to YouTube during online learning. The Skokie KW department used the platform for a significant portion of our assignments and lessons for students. While I got more comfortable using it, I feel like I have a lot to learn as someone who ended up posting multiple times a week. My own kids watch many things on YouTube, and I am always checking it for how-to videos in regard to home repair, crafts, etc. How did anything get fixed before YouTube!

I do not use Youtube a ton. My kids on the other hand are obsessed with everything from life hacks to readaloud books to barbie videos.I will occasionally watch something on youtube that I may have missed on regular tv or a recipe. For work, I will sometimes show videos on social interactions and so on.
