Each block gradually curved alongside the houses. Curving streets forced drivers to slow down as they made their way through the neighborhood. The curvature increased the aesthetic effect and made the streets safer due to slower traffic. As well as curved streets, it was also common to see trees planted every few feet, on every street. Today in 2018, the same style of streets are seen in Santa Clarita. Throughout the city of Santa Clarita, winding streets are around every corner. While most cities are laid out in a grid pattern, Santa Clarita and Levittowns rarely have structured streets. Trees planted only feet apart from each other is a common theme in Santa Clarita as well as in Levittown. With trees in front of every house, and on the side of every street, it is clear that Santa Clarita is a modern-day Levittown. During the 1950s, Levittown(s) were(was) advertised as a community for families. Living alone or unmarried was very uncommon. To promote the family atmosphere, the Levittown had numerous pools, baseball diamonds, shopping centers, and churches for people to spend their time in. To maximize their population, there were only public activities that could occupy many people at one time. For example, Levittown did not have any tennis courts, because only two people could use them at a time. Instead, multiple swimming pools would be installed because numerous people can swim at one time. Just like Levittown, Santa Clarita also has all of the mentioned locations and more. (Even tennis courts!) With numerous public swimming pools in Santa Clarita, it is easily comparable to Levittown. In fact, many homes have pools in their backyards because public pools become too crowded. On a daily basis in Santa Clarita, families are enjoying the outdoors, going to church, and going to events such as their children’s baseball games. However, the amount of crime is drastically lower than in cities such as Los Angeles. Neighborhood watch programs are in Santa Clarita, and its residents keep an eye out for each other. Back in Levittowns, most families moved there in order to escape living next to felons. In the 1950s, racism played a big factor in why some families moved to Levittown. For Example, to move away from African Americans. White families believed that they could live a happier and safer life in a town filled with other families like themselves. Today, Santa Clarita residents are of all races and ethnicities. Despite a now mixed society, they all still have the same reason for moving to the suburbs: to feel safe. Within Levittowns, there were subdivided communities of homes with distinctive names. This feature is found today in Santa Clarita. When people describe where they live, they often refer to the smaller community. The sub-divided  neighborhoods produced a sense of identity and often times an arrogant attitude. Residents of each neighborhood would look at other neighborhoods to not be up to par. In Santa Clarita, there are some neighborhoods that are known as the richer homes. This classification of homes and where people live is a feature in both Levittown and Santa Clarita. A second factor that shows layout similarity is with street names. In both Levittown and Santa Clarita, certain areas have street names that go along with a certain topic. For example, some streets in Santa Clarita are named after famous authors, while others are named after flowers. The inside of Levittown houses were all the same. They had elevated ceilings, bright colors, and all of the furniture pointed towards the television. During the 1950s, the television was the center of any household. Families would spend their leisure time by gathering around it and watching programs together. In Santa Clarita homes, the houses also have high ceilings. Both Levittown and Santa Clarita homes are built with an open floor plan concept. Rooms were large, open spaces, rather than connected by small hallways. Open floor plans continue to be common in homes today. Furniture pointed towards the television is also another concept that has stayed in homes throughout the years. Most couches and chairs are laid out in a way in which the TV is visible at all angles. As the years went on, more and more families flocked to live in Levittown. The idea of living there was highly desirable in the eyes of those who wished to grow their families. House after house could be seen down every paved street and around every curve. Driving through Santa Clarita is not any different. Constant traffic and the struggle to find parking spots are just some of the problems that residents face due to the high population of Santa Clarita. To keep up with its high population, both Levittown and Santa Clarita have multiple of everything. For example, there would not just one swimming pool or shopping center, but multiple in order for people to spread out. The distance between homes in both Levittown and Santa Clarita is minimal. Homes are not spread out, but in fact tightly packed next to neighbors. Another similarity is the expanding and building of new homes. New home developments are constantly being built all around Santa Clarita to keep up with the population demand. Levittown as well continued to build new homes to meet its demands.
