This is important because Mitch Albom is telling how the story starts, and it starts in the end. The end being Eddie dying. Then then the author says, "But all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time." This is some pretty deep stuff from Mitch Albom.

This is important because Eddie will die within the next hour. This is sad because he will die at Ruby Pier. Eddie was never able to escape Ruby Pier and the pier is what ended up killing him.

Good Guy - Page 3

This is important as it shows Eddie was a nice guy. Even in his old age children liked him. Eddie knew this and he didn't try to change he remained who he was. Eddie liked the children as much as they liked him. This is probably why he risked his own life to save the little girl.

This is important as it shows what kind of brother Eddie was. Even more it shows what kind of person Eddie was too. As soon as he heard his brothers scream without hesitation he ran to the alley and started swinging. Even though Joe was the older brother, Eddie was the one who stuck up for him and did the fighting.

War - Page 58

This is important as it shows again how Eddie is nice and caring. This also shows what the time period was like and what was going on back home during the war. The quote, "He guessed it was the right lift but the wrong pair of arms", shows how nice Eddie was in giving the children a lift, but also shows how tough the time period was since it wasn't their father lifting the children.

Dad - Page 101

This is important because Eddie sees his dad in the diner, but his dad is not Eddie's third person. Eddie still has to meet his third person. This is surprising because at this point Eddie thinks his third person is his dad, but his third person is actually Ruby who is going to tell Eddie he must forgive his dad.

Parents - Page 104

The author says that all parents damage their children. Whether it's on purpose or by mistake. Whether it was minor or ruined complete childhoods, all parents damage their children. Eddie's father damaged Eddie, mostly with neglect and discipline. This is why Eddie is finding it so hard to forgive his father.

Dad's neglect - Page 104

This is the neglect that Eddie's father had towards Eddie. All Eddie wanted was to get his father's attention and help him at the pier. But Eddie's father always left Eddie with a stranger and came back drunk. This is most of Eddie's memory of his father and this is why he can't forgive him just yet.

This is important because it shows what happened to Eddie when he was younger. Eddie's dad was always drunk and beat Eddie and his brother. This is why Eddie can't forgive his father.

This is ironic as Mickey Shea sexually assaulted Eddie's mother. Even though Mickey Shea sexually assaulted Eddie's mother and he is always drunk, he is a caring person. Here he is looking out for Eddie by telling him that war is no game and not to hesitate to shoot.

This is important because it tells of how young men sometimes are forced to go to war, like being drafted, or because they want to go. Eddie wanted to go because he thought it was his only way to become a man.

Eddie is celebrating his birthday. Marguerite his wife has been talking about adopting a child since they couldn't have their own. This scene shows Eddie's love for Marguerite and their shared desire to have a family.

Wedding - Page 155

This shows how much Eddie loved Marguerite. Even though he doesn't have that much money he uses it to try and give Marguerite the best wedding he can. This page also shows how much Eddie loves Marguerite, because he says he found a certain love with Marguerite.

This is important as it shows Eddie and Marguerite love for each other. They are both grateful for each other's love, and Marguerite's love puts Eddie's heart to sleep. This also shows what kind of person Marguerite is, as he choice was to see all kinds of weddings. This shows she loves to see people happy and love each other. It also probably reminds Marguerite of her and Eddie's wedding.
