Community Service Learning

A sickly and uncomfortable child is grasping tightly onto a clown doll, while a lady is there next to him knitting. Also, there are cups and plates on the table next to him, showcasing that the lady is nursing him back to health. I feel that this artifact demonstrates the importance of community service, when you are doing customer service you are not just doing fundraisers, bake sales, no you are meeting with people, you are gaining and understanding of what they are going through in their life, you are being more present and taking care of them in a hands on approach. This is only one of the few approaches one may do service learning. Still, it is very effective because you are not only seeing how you impact helping someone, but that person is also gaining an experience by meeting you and remembering how you treat them, they will remember it.

Leadership

An image of Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass was one of the many agents that fought for abolition. His many talks and discussions with various people about the many "evils of slavery" and many admired his character and the way he spoke with such fierceness and "electrifying eloquence". This relates to the pillar of Leadership because the meaning of the artifact signifies the qualities it takes to be a leader not just by leading, it also requires that you are willing to be a voice to others. Leading isn't only about telling others what to be doing however, showing the steps to getting there, makes a leader. When one talks about leadership you don't need to always be in the front leading, you are a person that guides others in the direction that you are planning to go in.

Community Building in a Diverse Society

An african woman that is seated on a chair in a red pant suit and tie , her hands and a part of her face are painted blue, and on the upper right there is a portrait of the woman on the wall. And on the wall, there are clouds and a checkered floor. This relates to the pillar of Community Building because it pinpoints that the way we all feel about a certain topic or how we take it in to identify it can sometimes be confusing even to us and how we take it in. Remembering that there are voices out there that are speaking towards many different voices one needs to be mindful about it, but also aware. Being involved in your community and taking and understanding to learn more about people helps to always be informed and be able to be well versed on issues.

This image is showing the declaration of indepence desk where Thomas Jefferson had substantially done most of his work which was also a portable desk and as the title has already discerned where the declaration of independence was signed. This image brings about the idea of citizenship because it identifies that it requires one to be not ignorant on issues that are happening around them. Being an engaged citizen you are aware of the activities and the problems that are appearing in your community, and if it allows you can participate in helping out. This is one of the many ways that you can be involved in your society.

An image that has a microscope and the background being blue. I feel that this demonstrates scholarship due to a microscope not only definitively showing research skills but it is also the basis of how many things are discovered and figured out, at the cellular level. The way that researchers have been able to find and discover problems that occur in organisms, was by researching, and researching from the basics and that was by going back to the beginning. Developing skills that you will use in terms of being able to solve critical problems be it social or in communication you always go back to what has caused the issue and understanding through various lenses.
