         <description><![CDATA[<div>The man is the ruler of his castle.  Everyone is to defer to the head of the household.  A woman marries and maintains her father's name and adds it to her husband's name as her surname, her children will carry both surnames.  However, when her daughters marry they will drop their mother's surname and take their husband's and father's surname.  The male name will always be the identity of the family. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>People will stand a nominal 2 or so feet apart when talking with each other.&nbsp; Men greet other men with a hand shake if they are not good friends or family members and women greet women the same.&nbsp; If they meet good friends or family this can change to a hug or abrazo. &nbsp;<br>Eye Contact:<br>In rural areas, people do not look at each other in the eyes, directly. Children who look adults directly in the eyes can be viewed as defiant or disrespectful.&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Societal Status</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is a class conscious society. Those of higher status will not do work that is "beneath" them. They believe some of this is pre-ordained. This ties back to their religion and their belief that "<em>God helps those who obey." </em>This concept is ingrained in the concept that God has laid out a path that each individual must follow. <br>This hierarchical status translates across all areas of life in Mexico. It is found in business as well as the home. <em><br></em><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Young adults do not live away from the family before marriage-- this seems strange to Mexican families. <br>Mexicans value owning their own business over working for a large company.<br>They do not like conflict.  Calling Out someone for a conflict is considered poor manners. <br>These are people who value family above everything else and do not move far from family after marriage. </div>]]></description>
