British General John Burgoyne led an invasion of New York from Canada.

On Christmas night, Washington and his army crossed the icy Delaware River.

The battle resulted in the capture of over 890 Hessian soldiers, the mortally wounding of Colonel Johann Rall, and the wounding of 83 others.
