Did you know your brain is more powerful than any computer? Our brains are pretty amazing! The brain is a 3-pound wrinkly, pink organ that is soft like a mushroom. Luckily, it is protected by eight bones. In a split second, our brain can notice a glass is going to fall off the counter and control everything
to stop that mess from happening. Your eyes see what’s going on and tell your brain how quickly you need to react. Then, your muscles spring into action. The brain even controls our heart to keep beating and our lungs to keep working while we are asleep.

Read the following text, and then answer the questions below.
Could the snacks you eat cut your chances of getting sick? Healthy things in everyday foods-from yogurt to walnuts- may help boost a kid's natural defenses. We know that what you eat has a clear impact on your immunity. So whether you're arming yourself for cold and flu season or just aiming for good health, immune-boosting snacks may help. There are four foods that boost immunity:
Yogurt
Yogurt contains helpful bacteria called probiotics. They
can improve the way your body uses food. But they're also
important in helping your body fight sickness.
Walnut
Walnuts have healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, which are good
for you in lots of ways. Experts believe that Omega-3 helps your body fight illness. One small study found that Omega-3 helps in minimizing the number of respiratory infections in kids. Walnuts are easy to sprinkle into a snack mix or on cereal.
Fruit and veggies
To help your immune system, look for ones that are high in vitamin C, like citrus fruit, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli and sweet potatoes.
Lean meats
Lean meats are meats with a relatively low fat content, such as skinless chicken and turkey. They would boost your body’s disease fighting system. First of all, they have protein, which is important for keeping up strength. Second, lean meats also contain zinc, which seems to help white blood cells fight off infections.

Read the text about global Warming and do the following tasks.
The earth, as we already know, goes around the sun. It is the sun that warms the air surrounding the earth, bringing about different types of climate in different areas. The air that surrounds the earth is called the atmosphere and it is composed of a combination of different gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane. But if there are too many of these gasses in the atmosphere that come from human activities, it will make our world hotter and bring about a harmful climate change.
Gasses act like the glass walls of a greenhouse, allowing some of the sun’s rays to enter, reflecting back harmful radiation from the sun and keeping some warmth close to the earth, making the earth a place where we can live. Some of the heat that comes from the sun is reflected by the greenhouse gasses and by the earth, and then goes back into space. Some of the warmth of the sun is trapped by the greenhouse gasses and stays in the atmosphere, keeping the earth warm. If this was not the case, it would be very cold on Earth – too cold for humans to live. This natural process is called the greenhouse effect. However, humans are adding more of these gasses into the atmosphere with activities such as burning oil and gas to run factories, to generate power and for transportation, land development or simply farming. Destroying or damaging forests is another human activity that produces more gases. This includes large-scale logging, mining, forest fires, and expansion of agricultural land. The greenhouse effect is becoming stronger, and the result is global warming.
Scientists already have documented these impacts of climate change. Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. Much of this melting ice contributes to sea-level rise. Rising temperatures are affecting wildlife and their habitats. Vanishing ice has challenged species such as the penguin in Antarctica. Precipitation ( rain and snowfall) has increased across the globe, on average. Yet some regions are experiencing more severe drought, increasing the risk of wildfires, lost crops, and drinking water shortages.
Source: https://climatekids.nasa.gov/menu/teach/

Global Warming is a world issue. Think of possible solutions. Discuss them with your colleague.

Read the text again and summarize the main ideas of the text.

Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) officials on Saturday said they are considering importing a hollow ball cover system to place in major dams and reduce water evaporation. “This past heatwave caused an additional 10 per cent of water evaporation or 80,000 cubic meters of water loss,” said JVA Secretary General Saad Abu Hammour. The JVA official noted that the loss of water from the 10 major dams in the Kingdom took place during the past 14 days.
“Water evaporation in general happens as long as there is sun, and the estimated loss of water during sunny and windy days reaches around 800,000 cubic meters,” Abu Hammour explained. The JVA official told The Jordan Times that there was an idea in 2010 to import “plastic balls with special specifications to place in the major dams to minimize water
evaporation”.
Hollow ball cover systems are made up of thousands of plastic balls that float on liquid surfaces, limiting evaporation, controlling unpleasant smells and preventing algae growth. This project is costly although it prevents around 80 per cent of water evaporation. He added that “the climate is changing and we must have a long-term solution to protect water in Jordan, especially with the shortage that we face almost annually”.
Last year, officials said Jordan ranks as the world’s second water-poorest country. The failing regional conditions and disorder have led to waves of refugees flowing into Jordan, pushing it over time from being one of the world’s 10 water-poorest countries, to the fourth and now the second, according to rankings by the United Nations.
