The legend of the crying rock tells the story of two lovers in the year 1805 that were supposed to get married. The story takes place in Ilse Aux Coudres, QC. Charles Desganges was to marry his fiance Louise but before this he had to go on a voyage to Europe since he was a marine. The plan was for him to leave in May and return in September when they would marry and then live on the tip of the island.

September came and Louise would sit on a rock by the shore waiting to see a mast appear on the horizon but none ever came. She continued to spend her days sitting on the same rock staring out at the river. No one came. Winter came along and she would look out the window of her house still waiting for her fiance to return. When spring returned she took once again her place on the rock, crying for her lover to return. Her sadness deepened every day.

By the end of May, no one ever saw Louise again. Her father put together a search party of several men, which ended after a few days. He never found his daughter again. However, he did come across an odd rock that he had never seen before that was dripping water into a basin. It is said that the drops of water are the endless tears that Louise still weeps for her lost love.
