Dia de Ação de Graças is festival in Brazil and it was created to unite the Brazilian people in 1949. It is on the fourth Thursday of November there. However, it is not widely celebrated yet.

Two things that are similar they both have turkey and it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday.

One thing that is different is the purpose of the holiday. This holiday is to unite Brazil, while the USA's purpose isn't to unite.

Thanksgiving though mostly celebrated in America has many unique cousins across the world Such as Norway. There people usually celebrate the holiday Høsttakkefest. Høsttakkefest translates directly to “Harvest Thanksgiving Feast.” But its roots are older and reflect both religious and secular traditions. This holiday even predates the adoption of Christianity in Norway.The date of Høsttakkefest is not set for a spesific day, so the dates often vary from early September to late October and sometimes early November. In 2015, the fanciest celebration of Høsttakkefest was held on Tuesday, September 8, in the National Cathedral in Trondheim.

The harvest I will talk about is the onion market/ festival. The onion market is held in Germany during the second week of October in the region of Thuringia. Over 300,000 people come together to celebrate the harvest of the onions and how grateful they are. One similarity this has toward thanksgiving is that they both celebrate harvest and have many people celebrate it. one difference is that the onion market is an actual market that you walk around and don't have a sit-down dinner.

The moon festival is about celebrating gathering of friends and family, giving thanks, and prayer for the future. Thanksgiving is similar because it also is about giving thanks and celebrating friends and family coming together to share a meal. One thing that make them different would be Thanksgiving is a time for people to give thanks and the moon festival is to celebrate harvest.

3: In Italy, they have olive harvests where a priest blesses the new oil and they have a feast and the olive oil harvest traditionally begins at the start of September and concludes mid-November, this is the best time of year for “la raccolta,” as olives showcase the perfect ripeness desired by producers to deliver a perfect blend of ripe fruitiness and earthy olive oil. Despite modern development having introduced man-made machines to facilitate the process, most of the intricate work of the harvest is done by hand. Italy is the home to the largest variety of olives in the whole world, the country grows more than five hundred different types of olives!

2: Two similarities are they are both held in fall and they both provide without cost.

1: One of the biggest differences is that while Thanksgiving lasts only 1 day the Olive harvest is celebrated somewhere between 1 and three months!

We often think of ourselves on Thanksgiving and our traditions but there is more to it. Other countries celebrate Thanksgiving and harvests too. Three interesting facts about Sukkot, a Jewish harvest festival, are that during harvest, workers would build similar huts in fields when harvesting crops. Today, Jewish families may spend time in a sukkah, or booth, during Sukkot. Another interesting fact is that the reason this harvest is celebrated the way it is is so that the Jews take a few days in the year to remember their 40 years in the desert leaving their home, Egypt. Lastly, during sukkot, there is no work, writing, commerce, or travel is permitted.

One similarity between Sakkot and Thanksgiving is that both of these events and celebrations use this day to celebrate what they are thankful for. Another similarity is that both are days set apart where there is no work. This is to simplify life and truly remind us of what we are thankful for.

One difference is that Thanksgiving might have become more complicated than it needs to be whereas when Sukkot comes the people remember to slow down.

So this Thanksgiving remember the Sakkot festival.
