American imperialism helped expand our power and made it solid. There were a lot of debates about foreign policy. we had a desire for military strength. This is when they realized that we were able to "sit at the big kid table" this was the establishment of our global presence.

The U.S. got access to new things. but they also had strained relationships with some nations and other people because of imperialism. we got split into two different sides, the ones who supported and the ones who did not.

America supported the Cubans and the Filipinos against the Spanish rule. the Cubans wanted independence from Spain. At first, the Cubans were struggling so badly that it almost ended U.S. trade with Cuba. And especially after the U.S. battleship exploded in Maine the likelihood of military intervention was very probable.

Yellow Journalism is a type of media that exaggerates and puts things way out of context to get more attention, cause distress, and get more sales. It was something that helped sort of stir up the public. the newspapers were a really big thing and that is how people knew about all of this. it would make people curious and anxious about what was happening they knew that if they did that they would sell more copies.

There were a ton of newspaper companies and they were pretty competitive. so everyone wanted to stand out so they started exaggerating and they got pretty creative with fonts and styles that caught the eyes attention. Especially when the explosion on the USS Maine. We still have no idea why that happened and what the cause of it was but because of yellow journalism people started creating the idea that Spain did it. On the newspapers there was a lot of fake evidence and horrid images with their huge headlines to catch the eye.

Germany agreed to this but then they thought that they could defeat Great Britain by submarine warfare. they even thought about violating the Sussex pledge because the U.S. was not even a neutral party anymore. After all, we were helping and giving supplies and other things to Allies.

One man named Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg, the German Chancellor, didn't think that this was a good idea at all and in the end thought that it would defeat Germany for good. But no one listened to him and they began submarine attacks anyway, this killed a good amount of U.S. citizens

They also had to accept full responsibility for causing the war. This was called the War Guilt Clause. Obviously, because of this, they lost a significant amount of territories and all of their land overseas. There were limits put on the army, and navy and an actual ban on the air force and submarines. The treaty created the League of Nations to help make less conflict in the future.

Now, why did we reject joining the League? There were some concerns over sovereignty and lots of senators feared the league would limit our independence in foreign policy and create more conflicts. After the war, there was a lot of isolation and Americans wanted to avoid entanglements in European affairs because of how much the war cost them. this threw an impact on the world because it allowed World War II to develop. because we didn't sign it the whole thing was sort of weak and lacked some support to actually enforce its decisions. Some countries were aggressive and others just didn't want to move forward without our input.

It usually takes the very young people and the very old but this flu on the graph was W-shaped because it was the people at the peak of their life so all of the working people were getting sick., those are the people that kept the world going around and the ones running things and they kept getting sick.

and when it came to killing from far away sea and airborne weapons made that dramatically easier. they would even set up guns on top of ships and were able to shoot from a farther away distance.

this helped the U.S. because it made fighting easier but it also helped other countries like Germany and submarines because it gave them an advantage in the North Sea.
