Question 1: How is this topic relevant today?

This topic is relevant today because Dalton's Atomic Theory laid the foundations for modern science today. It stated that all matter was made up of small, indivisible particles known as ‘atoms’. In our science class today, we are still learning about atoms and how all matter is made up of them.

Question 2: What did you know about your topic prior to the research project, and what new information have you learned during the research part of this assignment?

We already knew about Dalton's Atomic Theory. We learned about Dalton's contribution to research about color blindness, and how "Daltonism" was named after him. We also learned that he helped to teach at age 11, and many other details about his life growing up.

Question 3: How have you personally grown in science so far? (Taylor)

So far, I have learned a lot more about various topics. I feel like I have gotten better at measuring ingredients to do hands-on experiments, and my understanding has grown. We also learned about a variety of topics, such as elements and the periodic table, atoms and molecules, and recently, balancing chemical equations. This project also improved my understanding of Dalton's Atomic Theory. There is definitely still room for improvement, but I think I have personally grown a lot this year.

Then, in 1800, he resigned from New College and started work as a private science and mathematics tutor. In 1801, John Dalton gave a series of lectures which explained the research he had been working on with liquids and gases.

- In 1794, he wrote his first scientific paper, called "Extraordinary Facts Relating to the Vision of Colors." It was the first paper that was dedicated to color blindness. In the end, the theory he had was wrong, but due to the fact that he was the first person to research the topic, the condition is now called "Daltonism."
- In 1802, the contents of the lectures he gave the previous year were published.
- In 1803, Dalton publishes his Law of Partial Pressures, which is still used by chemistry students worldwide today.
