Studying twins was very interesting when studying human growth because it allowed the researchers to understand if certain traits were influenced from the environment or from genes passed on to them at birth. If twins separated at birth both show similar behaviors and have never met, the trait was obviously in the genes, opposed to influenced by environment.

Genes and environment play a vital role in shaping behavioral characteristics of an individual. One may or may not outweigh the other. Physical appearance is a developmental factor influenced by genes, but the "modern-day trends" followed by someone are developmental factors influenced by environment.
