Efforts were made to protect red wolves, so 17 red wolves were captured to protect and breed them. Now 50 to 75 red wolves roam the wilds of northeastern NC. The program is still going on right now since the population is still endangered. This program has made a great impact on the recovery of the red wolf population. Although, the population is still very low, and many other problems have been presented that threaten this population.
