My race is Latina. I don’t really think much about my race. The only time I do is when I’m filling out paperwork and it ask what race I am and my race is not listed there. I’ve noticed that after asking what race you are it asks if you’re a Latino/Hispanic which makes me ask if Latino/Hispanic isn’t a race does that mean that we don’t have a race? Or what does it mean?

I first became aware of race in freshman year of high school when i took my first ethnic studies class. I do often think about race mostly because race and ethnicity gets kind of confusing for me, but because many documents require you to put race and ethnicity. I think that yes, race has an impact on how you are treated, I think this because lighter skinned people are usually treated better than others. I think it’s messed up.

My race is Mexican American I dont even know for sure, but i know my parents are born in mexico but im born in the US so Mexican American makes the most sense. I found out when I was really young in school I noticed the wealth gap in different students and what trypes of friends I allways became closer to because of our similarities. I allways think about my race because it has to do everything about me as a person and it surrounds my whole family. It makes me feel frustrated since I cant change history but I also want to embrace it, might as well be proud of what I am since I cant change my ethnicity.

I'm African American , I first became aware of my race when I was in middle school when my parents started to tell me the history of my ancestors and my culture as a whole. I often think about my race because of all of the things that happen around the world and since its all on social media its hard not to see. I think my race does impact how people perceive me because of all of the stereotypes of African Americans. It makes me feel uncomfortable because people have this perception that i'm mean or aggressive when i'm really just a awkward/shy person.

I am Hispanic. I became vividly aware of my race when entering high school since it was a predominantly white school so I stuck out like a sore thumb. I think about my race occasionally though not as much as when I was in high school. I don’t particularly dwell on it in general since I don’t always find it relevant but seem to give it more thought when it is. I think my race definitely changes the way I perceive others and how they treat me likewise. I think it is what it is, however it’s quite unfair that people have it easier/harder than other based on the color of their skin.
