Born of Mary Wollstonecraft an early feminist and William Godwin a political writer. Mary never knew her mother as she died ten days shortly after her birth. Thus leaving her father to take care of her and her older half sister Fanny. The family changed roughly four years later as William married Mary Jane who brought her two children into the family. Mary was often found reading as it often helped escape her challenging home life (bio). She did not have any formal education. In her times of recreation she liked to scribble and write stories as it was her favorite pastime. Her first published work was a poem called "Mounseer Nongtongpaw" in 1807(bio). In 1814, Mary soon began a relationship with the poet Percy Bysshe. Percy was married with ANOTHER WOMAN yet left England with the teenage Mary on 1814. They then traveled around making the bare minimum. In 1816 Mary's half sister committed suicide and weeks later Percy's wife drowned herself. Mary and Percy suffered tremendously as they lost two of their own children soon after birth.

Mary had a tough marriage as it was filled with the death of the couple's children. Their marriage was also filled with adultery as Percy would have outside romances. In 1819 Mary gave birth to Percy Florence who went on to live into adulthood. Their family soon settled near Lenci , Italy, and in 1822 Percy drowned while sailing with a friend. After a year in Italy Mary suffered to maintain herself. Mary a widow at 24 suffered tremendously but later published her novel Valperga in 1823, she the sailed to back England. Mary then faced the opposition of the villagers because of her relationship with Percy. Mary still grieving the loss of her husband decided to write a biography to honor him. Percy father threatened to cut off all support to Mary if she published the biography of his son as he felt it would damage his reputation to his legacy. Mary then got to work on her novel The Last Novel in 1826.  She then spent her time writing and preserving her husband's work. She went on to write many more novels/ poems. Mary Shelley died on February 1, 1851, at the age of 53 of brain cancer.

They consist of the five "I"s which are inspiration, intuition, idealism, imagination and individuality. From a start she was surrounded by writers who fall into this category. He mother was activist for fought for women's right and her father was a philosopher/ journalist who wrote about social inequality. She then fell in love with her lover Percy a poet whose work reflected his bold ideas on creativity and freedom. She had a circle of friends who revolved around the topic with having connections. As of any of her stories I cannot compare any to the ideals of romanticism because I have not read or studied her work yet. Therefore she remains a romantic writer until I gain the understanding.

To help check for Gothic literature you must take in consideration the atmosphere/setting, supernatural, and fear. Gothic literature is still big to today as it helped pave the various forms like movies and in writing.

Using an emphasis on emotions and imagination to attract the reader. They use the plot of the story to bring a strong sense on emotional responses. An examples of Gothic Romanticism in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is used in describing Frankenstein as he is a gentle savage. His appearance is the only thing deceiving about him. As though he reacts violently uon provoked he is a simple character hoping to find a peace and tranquility he is looking for. In the painting by Thomas Cole we can draw the both sides of Romanticism and Gothic work. He draws a beautiful landscape with a ruin tower.

As of a passage of time Bryon compose the idea of a challenge to write a ghost story in between all writers. Thus the idea of Frankenstein was born on that day.
