         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many of the literary works from this time were diary entries, about God, and poems.<br><br>William Byrd wrote "From the Secret Diary of William Byrd". It was his own diary that had entries that gave people insight of the mind of a southern gentlemen.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The infamous Salem Witch Trials left an impression on the early American colonists. The Salem Witch Trials occured because people were accused of witchcraft. After a group of girls claimed that they were possessed by the devil, the trials began in 1962.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Some major important Puritans were William Ames, John Ball, and Richard Baxter. William Ames was an Anglican then became a Presbyterian. He influenced many American Puritans by writing the standard Puritan systematic theology. John Ball was a Presbyterian who wrote A Treatise of the Covenant of Grace. The Puritans believe that God expects them to live their lives in accordance of the Scriptures. They believed that they had a covenant with God that they had to keep.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Puritans were people that were apart of a religious reform movement called Puritanism. The puritans got their name by after 1560, for the people that wanted continue on with "purification" they were considered as puritans. The puritans were forced to leave their home because of their religious beliefs. The Puritans sailed to America from England in 1630 to look for their religious freedom.
