Manufacturers who create sports shoes are trying to find
many ways to create them more eco friendly. More then 25 billion pairs of shoes are manufactured all around the world, mostly in developing countries because they have so much space. Factories for these shoes take up much room and create a huge impact, such as pollution like greenhouse gases, to nearby things such as forests or communities. Shoes are a big factor of pollution in the clothing manufacturing industry because of all the material needed to create shoes. Manufacturers use more then 30 materials to create one shoe, which could be very expensive to buy that many materials. It takes 360 steps to create one shoe, which could take a very long time only for one shoe. More then two thirds of greenhouse gases are produced
during the creating of shoes in factories. Shoes are created to brake after usage for people to keep on buying new pairs of shoes. The materials in shoes cannot survive everything. Companies will never stop creating and manufacturing shoes do to the supply and demand of people. Once you have used a shoe for a long period of time and it is time to through it away, you cannot just recycle it. There are many different materials that you can and cannot recycle. Leather and cotton cannot be recycled but other materials can be. One way to get ride of the shoes is to just put it in the garbage, or give it to people that reuse the materials of the shoes for other things.

Forces involved in Basketball

Basketball requires a specify type of shoe. Contrary to a running shoe, a basketball shoe requires a different design. A basketball shoe is designed to provide lots of cushioning and support for jumping. Another aspect that is unique to the basketball shoe is the high ankle. The extra height of the ankle provides security of the athletes foot. This is so key because of all of the forces involved in basketball. Along with the up and down forces applied by jumping, when changing direction quickly, or stopping and starting rapidly many forces are applied. The sidewalls of the basketball shoe must be strong to keep the foot secure during play. There is also lots of padding so that the shoe has a nice sung fit to your foot. Forces being applied on a the shoe is compression because when the athlete goes in for a short, he pushes off the ground and compresses the shoe. When the athlete jumps up a life force is being placed because he is jumping off of the ground and lifting the shoe.

Basketball shoes were first created in the 1920s. The original basketball shoes were the Chuck Taylor by converse. For 40 years the canvas tennis with rubber soles were very popular for basketball use. The shoe was made with a high top to support ankles for jumping high. Companies tried to copy the shoe, but converse was always the most popular. In the 1960s, leather shoes started to become more popular. Many brands like Nike and Puma sold shoes for the use of basketball but converse was always the most popular. Just about every athlete owned a pair of converse because they were known for basketball. In the 1970s Nike came out with the shoe with the "swoosh", and did Puma with their low tops. In the late 70s converse came back with the Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. In the 80s Nike came out with a new shoe technology with air soles for a better performance. In the 1980s- 90s Michael Jordan came out with a brand starting with his "too colourful" which were later banned. Adidas after came out with the Ewings like the Jordans. After he came out with a new brand called the Air Jordans which started a new era of basketball shoes and making sure that the shoes focuses on a athletes preformance.

Basketball players can't use just any ordinary running shoe, they have to use basketball shoes. Basketball shoes are designed with a high top to help the athlete jump higher. The high top also helps with supporting the ankle so that there is no injury went forced is being applied there. The lower part of the shoe is designed like a running shoe so that the athlete can run easier. The shoe makes sure that the foot is stable in the shoe so that in case if a athlete is shooting the ball, he has full stabability and does not mess up his shot.
