Some things need to be left alone and don't need the human touch. Humans feel like we need the perfect world and think that we can achieve by screwing around with everything and changing it into society's definition of perfection, instead of diversity. I definitely don't think that messing with a fetus to change it's gender should not be allowed. The miracle of life is a beautiful thing and should be left natural, pure, and untouched. The decision should be left completely to the parents, however the government may feel obligated to provide necessary information to make the decision making process easier. Additionally, I believe that gene alteration conflicts with religious thought and would upset many people in religious communities, claiming that religious freedom is being trampled on. The same argument stands for alternating the gender of a fetus. Religious people would strongly object to a governmental endorsement of an unmoral act, in their opinion. Additionally, operations to change the gender of a fetus are extremely costly and strenuous. I think choosing the gender takes some of the "fun" out of having a baby. I like surprises so I definitely wouldn't want to choose the gender. For producing only thin people, I understand why it would seem like a better decision for "health reasons", but just because someone isn't overweight, does not mean that they are healthy. It also takes away that person's own desires. Maybe someone wants to be a little thicker than how they're parent wants them to be. It doesn't allow for them to choose how they want their body to look.
