"Why is sports considered pop culture?", because of the moment when you realize and learn what those athletes had to go through in order to become the best of the best and win for their people. Cheer is an important part of my life. It made me achieve a goal what my past selves couldn't, and that is being able to entertain and dance with and for people. The cheer team I look up to that is based in the Philippines, are the NU Bulldogs. Just the capability and athleticism those individuals can show to everyone is really another level. There's a difference between American and Filipino Collegiate cheer. American College cheer, they would focus more on throwing the most difficult skills they can do for 2 minutes and 15 seconds for 2 separate days, a preliminary and final performance. For Filipino College cheer, you can only perform once and it would include double the sections than what you can see in American college cheer. I would go far and say that the caliber of NU is different than the American college cheer groups I support and watch.

Hi, I am Jan Randolf A. Magayano, I am 20 years old, and to be really honest, I'm only interested in a few pop culture genres/topics in the Philippines. Those would be sports, music, old shows/teleserye's, comic books, and local sceneries. I've been mostly exposed to pop culture outside of the country, that majority being Western pop culture. Because of what my interests were growing up, I barely can count a few things I'm interested in our country's pop culture.

How does my chosen region of contemporary pop culture create changes in different aspects

I don't know where to start. Despite only experiencing the competitive aspect of the sport for 3 years, I have learned a lot of how the process goes before the day of competition. There was so much altering of my brain chemistry that it's not even a joke at this point. From pushing your physical capabilities, to learning how to deal with your emotions, a sport like cheer can affect a lot of social aspects. Like how you can't be exuding a bad aura or act rude for the rest of practice at the risk of affecting the teams morale. Or that if you were to be shouted at by your coach and go back to the start because someone made a mistake during a run through, you would follow what they say and deal with the very evident heavy breathing and tiredness affecting you and other members.

All for the sake of not regretting what we did on the day of competition and do a "Perfect" run of our routine. Practice makes perfect, but before you call it perfect, you must be serious and willing to deal with whatever your gonna experience for the rest of the duration of your stay. Cheer is not a sport if it doesn't bring out certain emotions out of people. Because passionate people of that sport would express emotions when they are doing things to perfect their craft and be able to give the people what they want, which is a version of them that they only see on the mat or play court.
