These "sling bullets" from ancient Roman time were very deadly. With your knowledge from this article, just how much of an advance, emt did the Romans have with these "sling bullets" over their enemies. How much of an advancement has the world changed from "sling bullets" to ballistic bullets?

Bullets of any type would provide an advantage over an enemy during the time of the Romans. Most battles would have been fought with swords or spears, so a projectile weapon would completely change the outcome of a battle or even a war. The Romans could attack their enemies without putting themselves in danger, and, if attacked, could keep their enemies at a distance where a sword wouldn't be effective.
The bullets most likely would not kill an attacker, but could provide an advantage psychologically. Weaponry has changed massively since that time, mainly due to the discovery and use of gunpowder. We now have weapons that use ballistic bullets that can kill from miles away, and we also have weapons that can fire 30 bullets in less than 20 seconds. While the technology has advanced and the lethality has increased, this article shows that the idea of small-projectile weaponry has been around for quite some time.

These "bullets" were a huge advantage over the enemy because they could fly them a good distance across the battlefield. They had an advantage of distance. At the time when these projectiles would have been used, most civilizations would not have been able to defend or counter attack because they simply did not have the range to do so. This was probably one of the first, if not the first use of "bullets" in war. The bullets were made of lead, so they would probably not have penetrated the person with armor on, even at high velocities. The bullet would probably break bones or damage organs, which is just as bad in battle especially with the primative medical care back then. One of the worst parts of using these bullets, is the psychological effect that the whistling bullets had on the minds of the enemy. Now guns can be accurate from a long, long distance. A person doesnt have to see the shooter to be shot. The article also talks about the fact that the site may have been used as exemplary violence to kill off any ideas of rebellion that invaders might have.

The "sling bullets" from ancient Roman time had a dramatic effect on the style of warfare that was being used at that time. When the Romans had this technology they were basically almost unstoppable because the "sling bullets brought a deadly range advantage against their enemies at the time when the only ranged weapon was a spearthrower. The "sling bullets" used in the article proved how deadly they can be. For instance when the Scottish tribes would charged at you with their swords and short ranged combat weapons they would be defenseless against a superb and deadly ranged attacks, which the sling bullets were a that time. This technology got was not only a killing machine but also psychologically damaged the enemies by fear of unknown power or technology that never been used. The sling bullets could of obviously scared the people of that time with its severe advantage over technology of war. The "sling bullets" in the article can be said to be the first in the making of the use gunpowder like weapons we have today which are the ballistic bullets. Today we have technology and safeguards against gunfire but the use of the ballistic bullet can used to pierce that safeguard. In today's world we have weapon art that kill people from miles away and some shot a large capacity of bullets in a matter of seconds. All in all the article of sling bullets show how far further back the date of when the bullets where actually made or used.

"Sling bullets" gave the Roman multiple huge advantages over their enemies. The first and most obvious is range. Instead of spears or swords the Romans could be at a relatively safe distance and inflict major damage on their enemies without putting much risk to themselves. In this situation, where the bullets were found, it is even more inportant because normally in a siege they would have to attak the walls and could be picked off by the soldiers higher on the wall, but instead they were at a safe distance. Another advantage is the amount of amunition they had compared to their enemies. Its difficult to carry around a shield, sword, armor, and spear because of the weight and the spear is normally a one time use. With the "sling bullets" they could carry dozens with less effort thus had more ammuntion to bombared their enemies with. The world as advanced greatly from when the Roman used these "bullets". The distance and accuracy that we now have with ballistic bullets is deadly. Instead of being able to sling a lead bullet from across a battlefield now you can pick off an enemy from a mile or more away. The ammunition has changed as well. Their deadliest bullet was the size of a mellon, but now we have bullets lighter and and much smaller in size that can do just as much if not more damage. The idea and advantages are the same we have just increased those factors.

The "sling bullets" the Romans used have provided them with a great advantage over any enemy they encountered. Obviously anybody fighting in a battle would prefer to be using guns with bullets instead of a spear or sword. The bullets allowed for the Romans to attack with a long range. This was really important because during the Roman time they were attacking others a lot. It's a lot safer to attack huge walls guarded by men from hundreds of feet back then 10 feet back. The "sling bullets'' gave them the oppurtunity to use this safer tactic. If they didn't have the bullets then they would be charging the walls with swords or spears and would be taking way more casualties, just like their enemies did. The "sling bullets" also allowed for them to use different kinds of strategies. Based on their intentions they could use different bullets for different purposes. For example, they used small lead bullets carved with holes for intimidation factor and large melon shaped bullets for more power and destruction. The regular spears and swords did not provide the advantages that the unique "sling bullets" did. Obviously, over time the bullets have only advanced more but the Romans had the initial thought of the advantages that these bullets provided that spears and swords didn't.

The "sling bullets" gave the Romans a huge advantage over all their enemies. It was stated in the article that it was harder to track and find ancient bullets because wood would rot away and iron would rust away and stone was impossible to find, but these lead bullets were easy to find with metal detectors. So, these lead bulletins would obviously do some more damage than a wooden bullet would. Also, using bullets at this point was a major advancement for their time period. Battles were fought with swords, knives, and spears at this time. Using bullets would have put the Romans in a very good spot for a victory over any enemy. To fight with swords and spears the person would have to be clos, but using bullets gives the Romans some distance over their enemies. This makes it difficult for their enemies to cause harm to the Romans. The world changed drastically when we changed to ballistics because it made the bullets more aerodynamic and more damaging. Also, using the whistling bullets gave the enemy some fear. I know if I hear something whistling at me coming fast I'm running or hesitating advancing on my enemy.

In terms of strength of weaponry that the Romans had over the Scottish, it is inconclusive if roman weapons were more advanced than the Scottish's. The article doesn't mention anything about Scottish weapons, but it did discuss the tactics used by the Romans, which was better than the tactics of the Scottish. For example, the sheer force of the Roman invasion was massive enough to outdo everything that the Scottish had to offer. The Romans were ingenious enough to use bullets that caused a "whizzing" sound in the air intended to scare the enemies, which could be classified partly as psychological warfare. This was much more advanced than their enemies. Whether this battle was for show or for conquest, it is not known. The technological advancements from this battle to present day conquests are amazing. You can make an exact copy of a perfect bullet and mass produce it so that everyone in your army has the same, perfect bullet. In Roman times, if you made a new type of bullet that everyone liked, recreating it could be a problem as it would have to be done by hand, which can lead to mistakes or variations.

To state the obvious, of course the Romans were militarily advanced over their enemies due to the information from the article. The sling bullets they used at that time had to be much more damaging compared to the common weapons of that time period. To have one side of the fort being fired at by "whistling" bullets made it much easier for the Romans to attack with the lemon-sized bullets which they intended to do the damage with. I'm sure the whistling bullets caused all kinds of chaos and confusion within the fort, giving the Romans the advantage. Over time, these very successful lead bullets of course turned into the deadly bullets that we have today. Now people are able to shoot someone from three miles away with ease and much more effectively. It's pretty interesting knowing that the Romans were the first to come up with the idea of a bullet, and how much farther this idea has come today.

The Roman army was held to one of the greatest test in history to hold power within such a larger territory. With the help of these very advanced "Sling bullets" Rome was able to conquer its enemies. This style of small projectile is what will revolutionize the entire planet 1,800 years later. The fact that these bullets were what seems to be in mass production is very alarming information; this shows that the armies of Rome had been successful with this type of technology in the past and find it to be very crucial technology. With time, many war-minded advancement came along. Eventually, the modern day bullet was developed. The largest difference between the two is how it is put into motion. Ancient sling bullets used man power with some adaptive technology and modern day bullets use the force generated by a small explosion. With that aside, the two differ in almost no other way other then the obvious advancements in aerodynamic properties. Even looking ahead, the physical bullet is becoming obsolete, many engineers for nations are looking to a safer and more effective disease based weapon.

The Romans had to have had a massive advantage over their enemies if they used these bullets. This is because of how good of a ranged weapon slings and bullets were. They were very scary because they are hard to see as they are flying at you and are very quick. If you add the whistling effect in then it scares your enemies a lot. The advancement of sling bullets to ballistic bullets is a massive one. Ballistic bullets are still lead but are much more aerodynamic and much faster than sling bullets

This made them confused and more vulnerable to the real damage doers, sling bullets. These sling bullets used by the powerful Roman army were another means to absolutely crush their enemies.
