Constructivism is based around experiencing new things and deciding what will be taken and what will be rejected from those experiences. This can be effective when teaching history as there are many sides being presented, when looking at past events. I would have students look into those events objectively then looking at the subjective points of view could help enrich their experience and opinion on what occurred in the past. This could also encourage students to go out and do further research on the topics we discuss in class. That would be a great achievement on my part. Also by using a variety of methods to encourage students to be more interactive with the subject and not base their learning on just reading and listening from text my lecture.

I will give the students a couple articles on how war was fought in the Revolutionary War, and how the tactics were used in battle. After reading the articles I would lead a discussion using the Socratic Seminar model , about what students thought would be an effective way to fight. The students could discuss the pros and cons of both fighting styles. Also, the students could discuss if they think a combination would be the most effective. At the end I would give some more information on what was the most effective and why it was most effective.

For this, I think it would be so fun and really spark student interest by having students to be given the role of a newspaper editor/writer during the Revolutionary War. I will give them the task of writing a persuasive argument for people to join either the Patriots or the Loyalists. I would first need to teach them what the both sides were during the war and that many people either were indifferent about the war, were against fighting, or wanted to split from the Empire by revolution. I would help them with this task by giving the students articles from multiple sides during this time. The students would then do some more research on their own as homework to pick a side to argue. After they do this they can create a newspaper article and bring it to class. I would then hang the articles around the classroom for everyone to read and see if they can change the minds of any of their classmates.

For this I think it would be good to have students think about what is freedom to them. I will ask the students if after the Revolutionary, did everyone gain freedom? Did freedom mean something different to those people in that time than it does to us now? This could help them see how differently people thought back then. A good way to do this would be to use the Integrative model. The students could make lists about what freedoms were won and what groups of people did gain and did not gain equality. For example; one of the pillars of America is that everyone is equal, but after the war not everyone was, like women for example still could not vote.

This is another fun one. After we discuss the role of propaganda in different wars and why they were used. I would have students make their own propaganda posters. The class will use a video to help them understand how to effectively create an image that could be use for propaganda. This will be useful in that will measure their understanding of what propaganda was used for and what imagery is most effective in getting a message across and triggering an emotion in people. This a project will give them a chance to express themselves in a creative way and act as a break from the regular class routine, by creating one on their own.

I will have students engage using the Jig-Saw model lesson. It is focused around the different sides of World War 2 and the different political systems they used. I will break up the class into groups and assign them what government they will be experts in. They will then read an article, that I will give them, and discuss it within their expert group. Afterwards they will pair up with people from the another expert group, one from each expert group, and teach about the government they were assigned. Afterwards The class will return to their seats and I will assess their understanding of the governments by asking them which government they felt each country fell under and if they notice any patterns in relationships and if those countries have changed since in modern times.

For this I could take students on a field trip to a retirement home and have them interact with senior citizens in their community. During their service time at a senior center, I would encourage them to learn about the person they are helping, learn about his or her life experience and ask them how they look at the world no. Also, if possible I would ask the students to find a tie in to something we discussed in class. A perfect day for this service could be on a Veteran's day event or gathering where the veterans are openly discussing their experience. This could really help give some personal experience and growth for the students interacting with people that lived through events they learned about in school, while also performing service.
