         <description><![CDATA[<div>She was raised as a Quaker, she didn't believe in violence. It went against her beliefs.  We probably wouldn't sign it, however with a principal or head figure present, some people would crack under the pressure.  We also think that she was fearful of losing her job.</div>]]></description>

McDowell was a quaker and did not believe in violence. &quot;McDowell said she was sure most Americans, including her own students, would do so, but that she could not; there were &quot;many ways of resisting&quot; hostility other than with violence.&quot; (Goldstein, p. 94) We would have to know where we were at in life in order to decide if we would sign it or not. </title>
