This is my representation of Split Brain. Split Brain is a surgical procedure where a person has their Corpus Callosum cut. This is done so that the right and left hemisphere do not communicate with each other. They actually fully work independently of one another. This is usually done due to such disorders as Epilepsy . (Found in chapter 13 pages 426-428) The brain can sometimes work so independently that the body can show two different choice of action. The book used an example of a young woman who would pick up a book to read with one hand and throw it with another. In my picture collage I depict a person who wants to be responsible and clean their house with their right hand and at the same time destroy it with the left. The split face represents them being able to separately have those feelings at the same time.

Lateralization

- Lateralization of the brain is when certain functions or cognitive responses are coming or happening in specifically one side of the brain. The right and left hemisphere of the brain has two different functions. This project probably originated and was more active in our right hemisphere which is responsible for art and being more creative amongst other things. The right side of the brain is heavily associated with negative feelings while the left is associated with more positive feelings. Lateralization is interesting to me because you never really think of something happening in a specific part of your brain. Say you’re good at math, you'd think your whole brain is working together to come up with an answer and to retain the information when really its the left hemisphere of your brain putting the work. As mentioned before, the positive feelings the left side is responsible for would mainly be happy, excited, surprised, calm. The hemispheres are like those totally opposite best friends that you never know how they end up working together but they just do. One is always more optimistic(in the case it would be the left hemisphere) and one is more emo or pessimistic(the right side of the brain).

Nicotine is found in tobacco which stimulates a family of acetylcholine receptors. Nicotine increases dopamine which makes a person feel good which leads to them wanting to feel that “good” consistently making them addictive. In the modules, our professor mentions in the video about dopamine that the lack of dopamine may lead to Parkinson’s disease. She also mentions that high levels of dopamine may lead to Schizophrenia. Everyone should get dopamine in a healthy amount and should not overdo it. Sometimes I would get my dopamine in an unhealthy way so when it came to the art project I knew that I wanted to do it on dopamine. What I want to take out of this and remember is to say no to nicotine and anything additive but also get a healthy amount of dopamine, a balance is the best way to go. (pg. 55)
