English, a very interesting and popular language. Also a language that’s always present in our daily life. Whether you’re watching your favourite show or shopping your favourite brand, English is never out of sight. But which role does English play in my life? How did I get to know English? Let’s find out!

The first time I got in touch with English, was when I was just a kid. It started when I was a baby, watching movies with daddy, without understanding what was happening or what they were saying. As I grew up, I watched children’s shows like Dora The Explorer, Blue’s Clues and Wonder Pets. I loved watching all sorts of children’s shows no matter the language. 

Nowadays, I read English books (Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare), watch films (Lights out, Hunger games, Conjuring…), talkshows (Ellen Degeneres, The Late Late show with James Cordon …)  and series (Shadowhunters, The Walking dead, Stranger Things …). I also follow a lot of British/American YouTube channels and listen to English songs. Besides listening to or reading the language, I also speak English online with (internet) friends or on social media apps like Selenators Amino or in group chats with people from all over the world.

I spoke English for the first time when my cousins, uncle and aunt moved here from America. They stayed for over 3 years and went back. They try to come and visit us every 2-3 years. We don’t always speak English to each other because we also have another language in common. 

Besides communicating with family/friends or talking English in a foreign country, I think that I’m capable of having a solid conversation or writing an article. I believe my listening and reading skills are okay. I don’t learn English because I have to, but because I like to improve my English and use it as an asset. 

I want to expand my vocabulary and my knowledge about certain things involving English.

By putting more focus on the little details that I alw ays get wrong, I will improve or by studying the tenses.

My English, rather American example is Selena Gomez. She’s my idol and I’ve been looking up to her since 2007. She’s born in Texas, but you can’t hear an accent. Her English is so beautiful, like everything else about her! Another English example is my English teacher. If she goes to the United Kingdom, I bet no one will know that she’s from Belgium.

I think American and English culture are more popular than Australian culture. All three cultures have their own slang, ways of doing and way of living. As I already learned a lot about English and American culture, I would love to get to know the Australian culture. I don’t know if there’s a big difference between Australian and the other two, but it might be fun learning a bit more foreign culture.

I wish to speak English like it’s my native language. I’m hoping to know everything there is to know about English. 
Now that you know a bit more about my experience and history regarding English, I hope to have convinced you of how motivated and excited I am to learn a lot more!

Especially by an officer of the law? The police should protect us and we should not be belittled by them. 

No matter who you are, police brutality can happen. However African Americans experience it more than anybody else. So who stands up against the killings that happen because of police brutality? Who demonstrates and speaks up for all the African Americans? The Black Lives Matter Movement.

Protesting, marching … they’d do anything to help raise awareness and draw attention to black Americans who have been killed by police brutality. 

In July several dozen demonstrators walked six miles in Philadelphia. They marched to keep their message that Black Lives Matter in the public eye. But marching isn’t enough to stop these horrifying crimes. The movement needs resources, money to be able to do something for the taken lives. Black Lives that matter.
