This is an exciting innovation because it helps accomplish what ICU nurses have struggled with for years: creating a restful and natural environment in one of the busiest and most disorienting places in the hospital. I especially like that it is non-pharmacological, allowing for a option other than prescribing more sedatives and anti-psychotics that may actually lead to worsening or prolonged delirium. More research is still needed, but the results published so far are promising.

Annelies – Harmony

My top strength is harmony, which makes me a natural team player, always on the lookout for what will make the team work better together.

Angelica – Analytical

Because this is meant to be used in the ICU, I feel it would be important to have someone whose strength lies in data, charts, and numbers who can synthesize our evaluation into something that will appeal to intensivists and ICU nurses, who are used to gathering as much data as possible to make life or death treatment decisions.

Carter – Communication

Because this project involves so many different groups – patients and families, hospital administration, ICU staff, IT, quality assurance, etc. – it would be key to have a strong communicator on the team who can make sure our ideas and plans are being effectively communicated to all the parties involved.

Faith – Futuristic

I think it would be important to include someone to inspire the rest of the team and staff with visions of manifesting the future through technology.

Fernando – Focus

Having someone with an executing strength would be key to making sure the evaluation stays on track and is completed in a timely manner.

Emily – Empathy

I would like to include an empathizer on the team, because delirium can be a very stressful experience for patients, families, and staff. Including someone who can empathize with their experiences would bring valuable input to our evaluation of this product.
