This type has hierarchy, which I'll be talking about in the class discussion as well. Because of the sizes of the text, the first thing my eye is drawn to is the word OASIS. However, because of the color and font of, Old Spice, my eye is conflicted over what to look at first. The smaller words are obviously last in the hierarchy though.

This is one of my favorite books, not just because of the art. The poems inside are witty and funny, and the text on the cover page shows that. The composition is amazing, because the girl is looking over the edge, right at the words, which draws our eyes to it even more. Also, the fancy swirl on the S draws in our eye as well, having us understand the word Sidewalk more than the other words, which is very clever.

Another one of my favorite books, this graphic novel immediately drew me in because of the text alone. The picture of the key is interesting, sure, but the type is just so unique, with different colors and lock and key motifs scattered through the letters. The blockiness of the letters helps pull the eye toward the Locke, where as the direct contrast of the slimness of the Key word, is also very clever because it molds itself into the tip of the key drawing.

I really love this mural because of the art, but the quote in the middle helps tie it all together. Not only do the words spell out a beautiful quote by Hayao Miyazaki, but the handwritten type this person wrote it in conveys the feeling of the piece as a whole. Although I think the placement could use a little work, geometric wise, the swash's used on various letters help create a sort of serene atmosphere to the rest of the quote.

I wanted to mention this example of a fading wall sign that I saw on Broad street, because no matter how long I look at it, I still can't figure out what the letters are saying. At first I thought it said "Space Center" but going back, I realize that that can't be it. The typeface itself is the problem, along with the spacing. Some of the letters are just to close to others, which is a little confusing. But more than that, the letters that are legible, don't seem to be creating an actual word. Overall, I'm just not sure what it's supposed to be.

I thought the color scheme in this advertisement was nice, as well as the hierarchy. Something I've learned from taking pictures of type and logos, is that ads have a lot of good color and hierarchy, because they know where they want you to look and they've paid a lot of money to figure out how to do it.
Anyway, the red ad white really compliment each other here, and add to the reddish brown color scheme of the piece as a whole.

The composition of upper and lower case letters is really good in this book cover. It has a simple color pallet and simple letters, [which I think is really good considering it's about managing mental clutter.]
The boldness of the letters as well as the wide spacing helps create a firmness about it, which is complimented by the blue creating a calm sensation.
I also think the serifs help the font seem more professional, which can help as this is an instructional book. For example, if there weren't any serifs, the font might seem too blocky or simple.

Mainly known for the show of the same name, this simple logo has been in so many things over the years, it's almost oversaturated. But, because of the simple working title, it never gets old visually.

Bob Ross remains to this day a symbol of art and creativity, and the branding of his name certainly doesn't hurt. The type of how his name is written everywhere is iconic, because of the handwritten quality and the originality of the swoops and cursive writing.
In addition, everyone who's ever seen his videos knows that "Happy little trees" is one of his signature phrases, which is why this marketing works here. The way the text also imitates a paint brush is telling, not only because he's an artist but also because he used a thick brush most of the time.

This Job posting poster works even better than the previous one. The print quality is definitely one reason, but some others are the colors used, the logo put in place and the type on the color block. The white on purple background works really well here, and the simple block letters help get the point across while keeping the same look of the original Taco Bell logo itself. The two fonts are very similar if not identical. The thin spacing and wide letters also bring different feel to the poster as a whole, and it's working really well to draw the eye in.

The May Day Festival was one of my favorite festivals when I was younger. It was a very magical and fun experience that this poster pretty much nails! Not only does the illustration add an out of this word feeling to the booklet, but the typeface does as well. The thick wide letters keep the viewer interested and the color matches well with the composition. The font makes the title a little hard to read at a distance, but it's a booklet so it's not really meant to be read from afar. Also, I think it's interesting how the counters on every letter here are very small, it makes the entire letter look more unique, but I do think it takes away from the readability of it.

I wanted to add this piece because of the stock difference in the type versus it's environment. On one hand, the difference in color and style draw in the viewers eye, but on the other hand they clash completely with the building itself. And not only the building, but also the part holding the type. One would think that this building would be accompanied with a fancy and swishy sort of lettering, but the simple thin letters don't do it justice here.
I think the font choice would be slightly less noticeable if the color surrounding it wasn't bright blue, and it might not clash so much.

I've never actually been here, but I saw the logo out the window on the bus and had to take a picture. I really love the contrast between thick and thin that is going on throughout the text. The fact that it's consistent all throughout also makes this style that much more appealing.
The positioning of the bars throughout the logo are interesting though, because they're different all over. For example in the G's the Bar is settled in the middle. In the E's the bars are near the top. Also, in the R's the stroke is near the bottom, somewhat mirroring the E's. Even though there is so much difference between them, it works really well as a whole composition wise.

The type in this logo works really well over all. The style of the swoops in the U and J match up really well. However, something that's always bugged me is the way they made the A. The Bar is supposed to match the swoops of other letters, but here it mainly looks out of place. I think part of this is because it's horizontal, but another part is that it's coming from the bottom of the A, instead of starting somewhere in the middle, like a more cursive centric letter.
Overall it works well, but if you analyze each letter separately it can stand out as bad, at least to me.

The cursive font this product has as it's logo is simple but effective. The swashes on a lot of the letters match the style and make the words look fancier over all, but also stay simple enough to be very legible, even to people who can't read cursive very well because the shapes of the original letters stay the same (aside from the S at the end.)
The Lidl logo on the bottom also works really well. Not only does the I have it's own little illustration, but the blocky letters also match it and bring the whole piece together.

Not only does the font add to the professionality of the words as a whole, but the italics also create a sort of frill that keeps the composition alive.
Although this is a government sanctioned document and not a product, type is still very important for not only the viewer, but also the integrity of the bureau.
