However, through the novel, Nick increasingly becomes a part of society and finds joy with different people that he doesn't anticipate finding joy with initially. Initially, he describes Gatsby as someone he doesn't like, but once he meets him he starts to like him more than Tom. This relates to Jordan because she's both a liar and a cheater, but Nick likes her. However, they are similar in that they are involved in other people's lives and want to know what is going on although Nick describes himself as an observer.
