As educators, we are always looking for ways to engage our students. I would propose creating interdisciplinary workshops or classes that encourage writing for different interests. A music student could write lyrics or essays about a focused topic of interest, a health services student might write about topics in their field, any and all majors would be able to submit something. It would essentially encourage writing beyond the writing classes.

Establish a nuclear semiotics course here at CCM. Nuclear semiotics involves the storage and disposal of nuclear debris. The course would be both technically and socially oriented. The technical side of the course would be based on the engineering and scientific problems associated with the nuclear industry. The social side of the course would deal with the problems associated with conveying warnings of the dangers associated with nuclear materials. It would involve input from the language department. It would also involve input from the art department. Such a course would be unusual and as such, it would bring attention to CCM and it would attract students.

Have the computer science department review the Apollo/Icarus program from 1969. That program was originally held at MIT and it involved the possibility of the asteroid Icarus colliding with the Earth. Plans were made to deflect the asteroid by using the apparatus being built for the Apollo program to carry nuclear weapons to Icarus and push it away from the Earth. Develop a computer game from this program, and copyright and market it.

Plant hardwood trees on the west side of the HPE Building and the west side of the LHT Building. Have the LHT Students plan the specifics of such a program and have them plant the trees. The shade from said trees would shade the corridors from sunlight in the summer, thus cooling the buildings. Sunlight would enter the corridors in winter, thus heating the buildings. Such a program would give CCM much good press as an environmentally conscious school.

Have a competition for the logo/insignia for the patrol cars for the design students.

Outdoor learning experience course work that could be offered here at CCM.

Partner CCM with an organization like Outward Bound or The National Outdoor Leadership School for a semester long program. Said program could be structured to fulfill the physical education, science, and English composition requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree.

Outdoor education programs are used by the service academies and the Reserve Officers Training Corps. They are, or were, used by other colleges such as Prescott College in Arizona and The College of the Atlantic in Maine.

The advantage to such a program is that it provides learning in a real-world environment and not in a purely and safely controlled academic environment.

Because of the physically demanding requirements of such a course, participation could satisfy the physical education requirements for a college degree. Such courses could be coupled with hands on course work in environmental studies, with components of such studies in biology, chemistry, physics, and meteorology. At the end of the (probably semester long) program the student would write a long report about their experiences in the program.

This would allow the student to complete the coursework requirements for physical education, a lab science, and English Composition, as outlined above in a single semester.

Website: have students in programs come up with video promotional content to show off their area. If it could happen in the studio great, if filming on scene is needed, make that work. Give edited content to website for consideration or just upload to the college YouTube. Have students edit, maybe actors act, sound design assistance from that dept. Give people space to get real world experience and give departments some exposure.

The NJ Food Strategy was published just this February 2026, and is an innovative, statewide effort to ensure reliable access to nutritious food, focusing on availability, sustainability, and community-driven, data-informed solutions. This strategy takes effect on industries across the food system chain. Educational institutions are especially important in conveying public knowledge and awareness to this statewide initiative. CCM can align with this state initiative, and teach our community to nourish and care for our land, ourselves, and community as a whole. Imagine something like cooperative extension, but more accessible and focused around Morris County qualities and community barriers. How to grow in our county's zone, farm volunteer opportunities, workforce development in these industries, partnerships with local businesses and farms, courses on how to make canned vegetables, bread & food basics, affordable cooking, growing herbs indoors, food access, etc. It could be its very own program, with cross-collaboration between Horticulture, CHAI, Workforce Development, and others.
