Under different colors of light, items of different materials show different shadows. I wanted to express emotion through strong light and shadow effect.

So I thought of incorporating a little crime theme into "Light and Shadow". The best explanation is that I hope that the changes in light and shadow can bring out the inner changes of a gray character, just like the summary in my picture

After research, I decided to focus on a criminal psychologist who was wandering the moral boundaries. The background story about this person is, what is it that causes people to commit crimes? Is the judgment correct?

Light and shadow can play a role in setting off emotions, such as controlling where the light source shines on the subject.

On the left are three of my sketches. The order is from left to right, top to bottom. Starting from the first picture, the black people represent the characters’ inner demons and troubles. I presented this sketch in black and white ink.

The second depicts a crime scene in darkness, with abstract lights and figures. I would like to illustrate the second sketch with a water pen or marker.

The third chapter is also abstract. It depicts the inner world of a gray character, which is crazy and tangled. I want to draw the third one with a water pen or marker.

I wanted to figure out which different materials would provide the deeper, darker effect that I was going for, so I decided to experiment with markers, color pencils, graphite, and ink - ending up liking all of them for different reasons. The markers provide a simple background, the color pencils enhance it, the graphite gives depth to the piece and ink helps me outline with a darker tone.

For my first piece, I chose to use a sketch that shows a sad woman, who's skin is slowly dissolving into a skull as society and injustices plague her, hurt her, and make her wear a mask.

I chose to keep the main character in the center, with the red background and dark vignette helping the character pop.

Next week, I plan to continue with this sketch, trying to turn it into a final piece.

I find these ideas interesting because I tend to take life for granted and forget to appreciate the little things, and I wish to create reminders with my art that people should appreciate what they have and find the positive in everything.

I am working with watercolors and colored pencils. Additionally, I practiced using chalk in my sketches (bottom left) in order to bring more vibrant color. I experimented by mixing these mediums, especially watercolor and chalk. As I worked, chalk was very messy and I wish to improve my method of using it.

Majority of my sketches so far have included nature, as well as a simplified subject (Drawing above bottom left). I want to include this subject in all of my works to represent life, and also include a bird to represent companionship; one of the greatest motivations for people to keep living.

I plan to keep all my color schemes vibrant and eye-catching by using complementary colors and sticking to more than at least 3 hues.

In my thumbnail sketches, I experimented with materials such as chalk pastels and watercolor paint as well as try to become comfortable with oil pastels again. I also experimented with different compositions in each thumbnail sketch: L-shape, S-shape, and rule of thirds. Through this process I have discovered that the S-shape composition might be the best option for my final work as it produces a cohesive image of the home and foliage.

In the future, I could improve the proportions in which I work in. When I was doing the thumbnail sketches, I felt as though the placement was askew.

Some popular examples of being able to see an artists health through the art they make are Vincent Van Goh's art, Edward Munch, and Picasso.

Throughout the year I will create and present my own art reflecting on the type of character I am in reference to how previous artist did aswell. It will have some pieces covering mental struggle, social circles, emotion, thoughts on specific topics or problems, worries, fears, hopes, dreams, etc.

The first piece will be covering the consequences of always wondering and dying never trying. I always am afraid of any little thing that can happen, but nothing good will ever come from sitting around and being afraid all the time, So I wanted to relate that to the first piece. It present a skeleton in abnormal coloring state, in an outfit similar to punk culture against a brick wall with red and blue hues to mimic siren colors. Then there will be old dripping graffiti beside it quoting "don't die wondering" or something similar to that. I want to avoid using blacks as much as possible and go for more abstract usage of colors, maybe using a blacklight like I did in the practice to get a more interesting and satisfying outtake.

I started sketching ideas for this topic that showed the dichotomy between architecture and plants, both through fancy, decorative structures and the harshness of brutalism. I then thought about the ways we are drawn to plants and how they literally keep us alive, and began delving more into the human experience side of the topic.

For my first work, I want to explore the attachment we foster with plants and the struggle of losing a plant you work so hard to care for. I want to show the grief that comes with investing time and energy into something living but inevitably being the reason something so fragile dies.

Throughout my pieces, I plan to utilize the contrast of warm and cool colors, warm for the focus and plant life and cool for the backgrounds and architecture.

I want to experiment with a few different mediums, like charcoal and watercolor, but I also plan to continue using a marker and colored pencil combination.

For the piece at the top left, I used charcoal and oil pastel to test how could I apply this mediums into my work and if I should keep using them.

For the one in the upper middle, I referenced asian style dresses and added a red color pastel to also test how could I fill and add color into my works in case I end up using this mediums, I used color red because it's a color that is very remarkable.

For the piece at the top right, I decided to go into a more black and white old school aesthetic, for that I used ink and color grey and added things like the gloves and bow tie while having the pieces that form the outfit to the side.

For the drawing at the lower right, I was inspired by the works of Yoshitaka Amano, so I for this one tried going for a more circus or clown aesthetic, So I decided to make a design and adding details like makeup while at the sides illustrating the pieces of clothing that compose the dress, using pink as a light color while grey as a dark contrast to the bright pink, and also red striped patterns in the skirt.

For the drawing in the lower Middle, this was another charcoal and oil pastel test so that's why it doesn't focuses on the clothing aspect but it's more of a random sketch that was meant to be used to try out this new mediums and find ways to make them work into my investigation.

I'm working with collages, markers, and pastels.

My first artwork will be of my childhood and the joy I felt while playing computer games despite being bullied during that time. I'm planning on using collages to give the art a more happy memory feeling by having the images made out of real life items and markers for the bright colors to highlight the joyful emotions.

My second artwork will be of my great grandma's home being gentrified and turned into a condo after she died. I'll will be using markers and ink to make the buildings and house feel realistic.

My last artwork will be based on the time I spiraled while being stressed about homework and my future. I would like to use pastels to blend my excitement for the future and my worries of what's to come. Finally I'll use the pastels are to blend the sadness and happiness together to create a chaotically mixed spiral of emotions.

In the future Im going be drawing it digitially

After reasearching, one of the questions I have is "Why is it that multiple influencers have the same beauty features, and not keeping it to their own" which of course you can look how you want to look but why is this "one look" being praised enough to the point where everyone wants to be someone else or have that same feature.

I choose to work with watercolor paint to be creating my piece because I have never done art with watercolor before and wanted to learn more about it.

For my sketches I was thinking how in any normal day, advertisements to change your physical appearance can show up. I showed this by putting a poster with a girl with a "pretty face" as the main focus, along with a business name and phone number for a Cosmetic office. The main focus is the other girl (who doesnt look like the advertisement) looking at the girl thinking she would be prettier if she had those features and qualities.

My mind map emphasised metamorphosis and also how bodybuilders build and maintain muscles. I drew a correlation between the two.

As for the picture with four different backs i was practicing anatomy while building a contrast between bulking and cutting (building and maintaining muscle).

Finally, im my main "sketch" i drew 1 back that was slip into two. The piece was essentially a before and after. I also annotated some questions and facts around the main piece. These were some of the thought that were present as i was drawing.

For materials, I was planning to use a combination of graphite, watercolor, and maybe acrylic paint to depict darker, cool-toned colors relating to the negative themes I discussed. For positive visions such as idealism/escapism or the natural world, I was planning to use warmer colors like yellow, greens, and sepia-toned effects. I would also maybe like to incorporate some collage elements if it fits.

I haven't thought too much about composition yet, but I do know I want to show contrast between the negative themes/avoidance and positive themes/idealism. For that I was considering doing some mirror imagery or windows that show a glimpse of the positive themes.

For my composition, I wanted to use mirror imagery, with a self portrait laying down, looking into a pond at all the possibilities for hobbies/accomplishments that I could be doing. The singular self portrait above the water would be reaching out to these hobbies, but would create a ripple in the pond, signifying the barrier/blur that is stopping me from accomplishing these things.

For mediums, I think I want to use a combination of watercolor, colored pencil, and maybe acrylic paint, but I have not fully decided yet. I plan to do more experimenting with different mediums. For color scheme, the real world above the water was going to be gray-toned, and the self-portrait would be graphite. The scene inside the pond reflection is going to be more colorful, and I was going to try to incorporate yellows, greens, and maybe some other pops of red or sepia.

My next steps are to finalize my composition, color scheme, and then take some reference pictures to use/practice for my final.

"Persona 5" delves into some social issues that are closely related to the real world. Through the fictional concept of "Palace", the game allows the protagonist to play the role of an illegal "vigilante" to face and solve these social problems. The mask "Persona" worn by the protagonist when solving problems is the source of his power, and it also symbolizes the different identities and roles of the characters in society.

After some research, I settled on two characters who could become the protagonists of my final work: Ren Amamiya and Goro Akechi. Ren Amamiya is the protagonist of the game. As a phantom thief in the game world, he is actually on the side of justice. Goro Akechi is a righteous detective in the game world, but in fact he is a villain who has gone astray. What makes me sad most about this game is that Goro Akechi is clearly qualified to be the protagonist, but he is forced by fate to fight against Amamiya Ren. They are both children of destiny, but Goro Akechi is the evil side.

My sketch is the direction that I think the story might go. I focused on depicting the character's own struggle. Use highly saturated and bright colors to highlight emotions. One person endures oppression and injustice from the outside world, transforms from a righteous detective to an anti-theft agent, and finally seeks redemption through sacrifice. The other is a determined man who has been living a double life, carrying a lot of things, even the death of his companions.

Through contradictions, the theme is pointed out and social issues are explored: why there is crime, how to solve criminals, and why masks exist.

To confirm my topic, I started with drawing the brainstorm of one topic and then combining two of my topic to see how they will come out. Like the sketches I have above, I have the ones for Mask, Phobias & Fears, and the combination of flowers and Phobias & Fears.

For my next step, I explored some more detailed sketches. I separated the combined topics into two parts. For this part, I focused on fears. In these two sketches, I used elements like shadows to create a feeling of fears. Like the sketch on the bottom right, the shadows wearing different masks represent different things that the person is afraid of in real life. In the sketch in the middle, the hands holding the girl create a feeling of pressure and depression.

The second part is the combination of Mask and Flowers representing human emotions. In this part I tried a new way to combine my topic: I draw the flower as a mask on the human’s face. Like the sketch on the left, the big blue flower covering the human’s right eye is like a mask, which represents a creative mood. The blue flower is the embodiment of the creative ideas in the human brain. In the sketch on the bottom, I focused on flowers representing human emotions. On the top left is the emotion of strength and newborn; on the top right is the emotion of joy and hope; on the bottom is the emotion of sadness. I chose the type of flowers that represent the different emotions. For example, roses and daisy represent joyful and hopeful.

I’m interested in the ways these two art forms intersect, revealing deep cultural connections through visual symbols. Using ink for tattoo designs and incorporating patterns and elements to represent traditional attire, I plan to create works that reflect the intricate patterns, textures, and meanings behind these cultural expressions.

This investigation allows me to explore how tradition and personal identity are visually communicated through art.

From personal experience being a women musician and drummer i’ve experienced the misogynistic comments that come with this. I’ve found my way to stand up for myself against comments like this as well as stereotypes placed upon women in music and other male dominated environments. I’m very passionate about women breaking these stigmas and coming into our own power and freedom to creatively expresses ourselves in many different ways. I want to express this through the collection of art pieces I create in order to tell a story and show empowering message to others.

Music can transmit so many emotions to you depending on what you are listening to and what you are feeling at that moment. When people listen to music it can bring to mind a specific memory, provoke happiness, nostalgia, tranquility, peace or some other emotion.

Grow: I can improve my artwork by adding depth to my project. The end result appears to be flat due to lack of shading and use of space around the house, which is the main focal point of the artwork.

• I think I could have made the face pop out more by making it overall more realistic.

Glow:

• I had some nice colors, which helped make the goddess pop in my artwork.

Symbolism:

•  I created a contrast between the corners and brought the viewer’s attention to the center by using shadows in the corners.  I created the Goddess in the center using her known form, with multiple symbols of power in her arms: lions, tridents, conch shell, etc.  I put the character in the center, on top of lions (the kings of the world) to help show her prowess and power in Hindu society. My investigation is about portraying women in power, and how society and different cultures portray them. In this artwork, I reflected upon my own Indian culture, portraying how in Hindu culture, women are often portrayed as goddesses, as a symbol of strength for society.

One thing I could have done better:

• I could have worked on the proportions more so that the head of the goddess in question was slightly larger, which would have helped me make it cleaner.

Grow: I think with more practice, I can try to incorporate more details into my piece.

The symbols of red and blue contrast the American and Chinese cultures. The hanfu shoes and converse, and the jean shorts and qi pao also show a mixture of the cultures, especially being worn by the same person. The clashing colors and fashion help illustrate the message of how my intermixing of cultures can feel like. One thing I could of done better is adding more detail onto the qi pao and hanfu shoes.

Grow: I can improve some of the shading and textures in the design. I would like to improve things like the shading and textures because the main emphasis of the drawing is the use of bright colors and their contrast. I could also learn to use other types of pattern to create more variety and contrast.

One thing I really like about this piece is the way I drew the hair with charcoal. I like the way it stands out and even though it's meant to be messy hair it still looks good in my opinion

Grow:

Overall I need to work on depth, proportion, and understanding light values. I need to practice more at home on drawing with graphite and charcoal.

Symbolism:

I made the face with no facial features to symbolise the way an electronic can dehumanize someone. I also made it a more jarring white to show how bright the light from the phone is.

Glow- I like the colors and shadows i used. I like the symbols i used as well, the angel as the power of God and the demon as the power hes fighting against

Grow: I need to work on drawing better shadows, landscapes, and color schemes. For landscapes, I need to draw more of it. I also need to choose a more diverse selection of colors.

Grow: I'll like to draw myself more realistically and add a better background behind me.

The imagery of the artwork references how that people with depression tend to think their past was a lot happier than their current reality and many times wishes to go back.

glow: This usually isn't my style of drawing so I'm proud that I was able to make something new and it came out decently good. I like how the flowers look all happy and bright while the girl is all blue (sad).

Glow: I liked how I made a little shadows on the back of the girl.

Grow: I think I definitely could have made the gray-forest background more detailed and realistic looking. I also wished the lake reflection was even more colorful, and I'll probably fix that later. I also hope people would understand that the bottom half is supposed to be a reflection in a lake, because I'm not really sure that you can tell. I also wish the hobby portraits were more realistic.

Glow: I really like the concept for this painting, and the execution isn't as bad as I thought it would be, and mostly lives up to the vision I had for it in my mind. My favorite thing I did was the graphite self portrait.

Grow: I could have made the composition less stiff and exaggerated the perspective more to add interest, as well as populate the image with more designs to avoid having gaps with little detail or meaning.

Symbolism: I wanted to use the dead plants as a representation for the different ecosystems that are suffering due to human influence alongside the surface meaning of losing a plant, something so important to people. I wanted to hone in on a specific instance while implying worldly themes for the overall piece.

Grow- I am not very clear about the relationship between distance and distance of objects. For example, there is a hand very close to the audience in the dark part of the picture, but in fact it is not presented very well.

The crowds and trees in my work represent a crime scene in the dark night. I use light to highlight the character. The whole scene is distorted, showing the character's confused and fearful emotions.

Grow: I can improve my artwork by adding more values. Additionally, my lines feel too sketchy and I can improve by making them smoother, as this also helps with vibrancy. I want to have more intriguing perspectives, and make the scene look more accurate proportionally.

• I think i could've made the dog's face look better and more realistic; the background is too empty; the background blends in with the dog.

Glow:

• I like how the fur came out and the face looks good

grow: The spray paint looks like its hovering over the wall instead of actually painted onto the bricks and I should have added more shadow, making it feel more merged with the bricks.

symbolism: I wanted the dead body to represent me and the text being a msg to the viewers where instead of sitting around, and never doing things they'd like to do, because we only have one life, and our time is limited, so the text "dont die wondering" is meant to push someone to do more without the fears of what ifs. The body's attire is meant to represent the punk lifestyle and idea of pursuing and taking action, doing things now instead of later.

Grow: I think I could use a better pallet of colors next time.

Symbolism:The hearts like necklace fell like their heart is vulnerable like that, a necklace, something that is easy to break, the chains it means the feeling of being tied, the spirals are part of the feeling of anguish along with the covered eyes, for that "There is no worse blind man than he who does not want to see"

Grow: One thing that I really struggled with when creating this artwork was the .5 perspective. I think even though I'm still proud of how It turned out I believe it's definitely something that I should be working on in order to perfect this perspective within my art.

Symbolism: One prominent symbol in this piece that ties into my sustained investigation statement would be the woman surfing in heels. The heels are emphasized through perspective as well as texture in a way to symbolize feminism and breaking down stigmas and barriers for women in predominantly male spaces similar to surfing. Surfing in heels is a powerful symbol to me that portrays the notion of hard working woman stepping into their confidence, power, and open femininity in a positive way to do something men are often considered "superior" in, and to do it better AND in heels.

Grow: The subject of the painting is a bit monotonous, and after finishing it, I found that the character's arms were too thin.

Symbolism: The theme of my paintings is resistance and awakening. The protagonists resist the injustice of the world in their cognitive world and awaken the power of their inner spirit. This is a response to all kinds of unreasonable things in the real world, emphasizing personal will and the shackles they carry.

Grow: Something I still need to work on is learning ho to use more colors to match my piece. Using color scares me because one wrong move and my art is ruined. I want to be more confident in using color in different ways.

Symbolism: She has a sad and anxious face while wearing a happy party had. This supports the idea of having to wear a mask to show others that you're happy, when you know in your heart that you're really struggling.

Grow: The background looks a little bit empty. More details should be added to the drawing. Color should be applied more evenly.

Symbolism:

One thing that I thought was cool is the different color pallets in the 2 people. The one in the poster is more the basic/pretty and warm colors, and the other girl is more dark to pale contrast colors.

• Grow:

I think I could've done a lot more with the drawing by adding more depth and detail. Also didn't really have a set color pallet through out the background. I kind of just picked random colors. The shapes and proportions could've been better with the details in the background and specifically on the poster, I feel I could've done a lot more with it rather than leave it blank.

• Symbolism:

I thought the Hollywood sign in the back was a good indication of the location this takes place in and I choose it because Hollywood is known for its Film industry and the certain "look" that they have. For the poster on the pole is meant to be seen as how the push for the beauty standard is sadly not uncommon in the world.

Grow - One big issue is obviously that it is not done yet and i am still working on it. Another grow could be to paint more evenly because now i have to go over the background with color pencil to make sure it looks smooth, which takes a lot of time which i dont have a lot of

Symbolism - The character in the middle is breaking the chains and letting go of a traumatic and bad past, and finally moving on from it. The chains symbolize the traumatic past the character went through and i gave him gloves to show that he doesn't want to interact much with it as he just wants to move on. The red background evokes a lot of emotion and gives a good bit of contrast, on top of that, its also really eye catching and stands out

I wanted to highlight bright colors, especially contrasting colors, to brighten the entire image. I also tried appropriate white space. In addition, I also drew a number of different facial expressions for the characters in my final image.

I wanted to show a person's twisted inner world with a little comic element. In order to show one's inner thoughts, one must first have more obvious expressions, such as shock, fear and confusion. Brushes of different materials will have different textures, so I plan to incorporate different brushes and add black and white to the colors to reveal the important parts.

In my thumbnail sketches, I sketched different, highly-recognized Georgian estates: Chatsworth, Holburne Museum, and Blenheim. In these thumbnail sketches, I used the perspective of looking upwards at the estates to emphasize the grandiosity of them.

In my experimentation with materials, I settled on using watercolor again as it can replicate the watery appearance of the Georgian homes due to limestone, a common building material. In addition, I experimented with colored pencils which can be used for the shadows on the buildings.

I intend to work with a cool color scheme to emphasize the feeling of nighttime, there will be a campfire in the center, which will contrast with the use of warm colors. This campfire can also represent the warm feeling of camping with a companion, which is the focus of the work. Hydrangeas are also a huge part of my work, as they represent friendship and gratitude.

I used colored pencils for my experimentation. Additionally, the trees in the background will be painted using watercolors or oil pastels to bring a soft look to them, rather than the sharpness colored pencils would bring.

I want to show details in facial features of typical Chinese and American people. I want to keep the background simple to bring the focus towards the features and less to other objects around the features. There are also different POVs of where the features are viewed from to show a more abstract take on my idea.

Once I finish putting the pieces together, I might add some oil pastel strokes to create texture in my piece. This way I can try show accentuate the sense of clashing.

Putting all of these features together is an easy way to compare the different people from different cultures. The jagged edges of the paper also symbolizes how it can be hard to combine such different cultures.

As far as colorways are concerned i took some inspiration from the great apes from Dragon Ball Z as well as their design. I took inspiration from their design because i wasn't too fond of how i drew a realistic gorilla. As for the two compositions. I initially thought to draw a stand off between a man and gorilla, which coincidentally resembled tarzan. As a result i changed the composition to a scene of the gorilla by itself. This then changed once again because of a lack of meaning and symbolism. So despite how comical it may seem i drew a gorilla bench pressing.

I experimented with color pencils which i didn't particularly like due to my inexperience and preferences. I then used a thin sharpie to outline and shade another composition, which i was also not fond of.

• The gorilla bench pressing serves as a direct symbol for immense strength. The bench press works well as symbol because a gorilla would never actually bench press, yet according to some hypothesis's a gorilla is capable of bench pressing over 4000ibs which dwarfs the current world record of 1401 ibs. This completely distorts our perception of strength, which is why i chose to draw it.

I chose to make a child smile because I feel that children show their emotions in a fresher way. I feel that the child is learning to express his own emotions, to receive those of others and to respond to them by trying to control his own emotions.

I decided to make a boy since they don't hide their emotions like older people. They are freer when expressing their emotions. If they are angry they show it, if they are happy they also show it. I feel that it is important for children to express their emotions because it favors their personal well-being and helps create the necessary conditions for the correct acquisition of knowledge. I want this drawing to reflect the child's emotion. I want when a person sees them to know what the drawing is about.

As for what I wanted to highlight, I decided to keep the butterflies in color to have them pop out, while everything else will be in darker tones of colored pencil, graphite, and watercolor.

I decided to choose yellow/gold to show the power and grandiosity of this woman, and I attempted to draw and articulate different templates and compositions to see which idea would help the character look the most at peace and ended up with her in the center, facing us, with her turban a little bit off to the side.

I feel like after making something I'm proud about, or playing music on a bass, or guitar, or drums, that I get this thrill of adrenaline. Like I can do anything in the world, and no one could stop me.

I wanted to figure out a way to depict how That feels for me through art resulting in curling and curving lines, nothing in a straight direction as ideas and feelings spiral through all different kinds of possibilities. The most I ever feel this creative boost is the final day up on stage, or when I'm in the comfort of my room, brainstorming different song and tune ideas.

I want to use bright vivid colors, contrary to my previous work to represent a sense of creativity. Patterns and line weight to create contrast and comparison from one pattern to another. Markers, pens, colored pencils, and probably copic markers to create the thick lines and colors.

For mediums in my sketches I used graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, and ink experimentation.

In order to enforce his own justice, he cooperated with and confronted the protagonists. In P5R, his story was further developed, revealing more about his inner struggles and choices. Goro Akechi has complex motives, including the pursuit of justice, the desire for personal revenge, and a strong desire to prove his worth.

Despite his bad behavior, his complexity makes the character more three-dimensional. I like such a character in the gray area. Such a story resonates with me. His story touches on the themes of personal growth, choice and consequences, and makes people reflect on the true meaning of justice and the hidden problems of society.

What my paintings want to express is to explore the key to modern social problems and the complexity of human nature, from a detective who seems to be righteous to a villain with his own dark plans, and then to the exploration of self-salvation in P5R.

The verse I choose for this final work is Psalms 22:16 "Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet."

The part in this verse I wanna draw are the dogs. In the verse it talks also about villains as well so I wanna make the dogs look super aggressive and savage. In the sketches it looks pretty bad since I draw mostly digital but trust the process. Im planning draw maybe 3 dogs barking and being feral.

Digitally I only wanna use few colors because I like it my drawings simple. Im going to go for a dark grey on the dogs and blackish on the back.

I'm choosing to use colored pencil because I can convey textures in detailed ways. I considered doing further contrast with the background being in charcoal and the foreground in colored pencil, but the cool and warm colors have a more subtle contrast that lets to two parts look nearly integrated with each other, but slightly off. I'm sticking with the green, red, and yellow for the warm section, and brown, grey, purple, and blue for the cool section.

I went through a lot of different ideas to depict the state of reminiscing and decided that a character laying in the grass overthinking fit it nicely so i went with that, im using the pose from the reference i pu on here, but, im debating on whether or not to make it night time. above the character ill put thought bubbles of good memories from their past and just have the character with a dumbfounded look as if he's lost in his thoughts

To describe the topic of Nature, I used animal elements like adding a fishtail or butterfly wings to the human figure which made it looks like a fairy or a magical creature. For my research, I focused on the words "nature" and "fairy" because I think these two words match very well and closely relate to my topic. The green background of the forest describes the topic of nature and the figure of elf made the image looks vivid.

As my last work, I also choose the topic of flowers for my second project since these two topics match very well. Flowers can be a good representation of nature. The flowers surrounding the human figures create a vibrant and aesthetic mood.

For the character named Liza Vinni at the left I used dark colors for the clothing because it's meant to be a sort of gothic dress, so I went for darker colors. At the center there is an open jack in the box to sort of represent another character that I am still brainstorming, but the reason why the box is here is because is one of the brainstorm sketches that came up. At the right is one of the brainstorm ideas which involves creating a story or a plot that focuses on this two siblings. To create a contrast between the theater-like background and the characters I decided to use different mediums on each one. For the siblings I used color pencils and ink pens for lineart and coloring. While for the background, I used red,grey, and brown pastels. To make it more noticeable that they are siblings, I colored their hair and eyes with dark brown and green to imply their similar traits. The art made by Tetsuya Nomura was a great inspiration for the work done here.

I want to highlight the idea of choosing love or emotions over the peace of mind and what you know deep down is right for you. As humans, we naturally get caught up in the feeling of love and comfort, but at times this can be unhealthy and get toxic. The idea of hand holding the heart higher than the brain represents choosing love over mind.

Glow - The dry texture of black pencil can better express a vague anxiety. And my theme is human emotions, so it fit perfectly. I think this work is more in line with my expectations, but the overall scrawling feels heavier. However, I like the dry texture of the black pencil on the paper, so it is successful.

Grow- My image is overall sloppy and lacks details. For example, the background is only red and gray, final project will be simple. Secondly, the picture deviates a bit from the theme "work based on crime", and I should have added more elements to it to complete the theme.

Grow: My color transition is abrupt and not very natural, and I did not depict the ju'li sense of space between the characters and the background.

Symbolism: There is a strong contrast between the characters on the left and right sides of my painting, but they are actually the same person. What I want to express is the black and white sides of this character. He has his own worldview and a complex personality. His creation reflects a profound exploration of the multifaceted nature of human nature, which is also the concept I want to express: what is justice and sacrifice, and how the gray area of ​​morality shapes criminals.

My way of expressing things in my second piece is personifying the emotions that my character carries with her, things that addictions can cause, such as loneliness, depression or emptiness, I wanted to take these themes to a more symbolic level.

Grow: I do not like how flat they artwork looks. I believe it lacks additional shading that would make it appear as a closer depiction of Holburne Museum. I also feel that I did not use my background appropriately when that could add to the grandiose feel of Georgian architecture. Lastly, I feel that final result is askew and is veering slightly toward the right.

One grow is the color scheme. My intention was to make the campfire stand out by contrasting the cool color scheme, however it looks a bit distracting to me. The hydrangeas also look a bit too light, and would've looked more fitting if they were more shaded.

Grow: The hair part lacks color variation which makes it look too flat. The center of the picture is slightly offset to the lower left. As a consequence, the bottom right looks too empty. One important point, the representation of flower was not strong enough to express the feeling. It should be at least the half part of the drawing to emphasize the topic of flowers.

Symbols: I use flowers as a representation of a delightful and peaceful feeling of the human figure. The growing vine from the heart represents vitality and life.

Grow: I can improve how to color, how to make the drawing look more realistic, how to make shadows better.

Grow: I need to work on my proportion and symmetry. I see that the eyes aren't even and the mirror looks all wonky. I also see that the hair isn't proportionate to the head.

Symbols : I made the symbol of a mirror to showcase that she's judging and looking at herself. I also made the features she can change herself like her hair, nails, and accessories, colorful to convey that she feels the need to change her appearance as much as possible. I left her face drawn with pencil and also making her touch her face with her hand to show that her face is the only thing she can't change as easily. She is insecure that her face is bland and boring. I also made her eyebrows with a worried expression to show that she's thinking about her face in the mirror.

Grow:

• I think I could have blended the body of the woman better so it was cleaner.

Glow:

• I enjoyed the 3d effect this has, thanks to the gold butterflies, and the texture I added through the different mediums.

Symbolism:

• My sustained investigation is about how women's power is represented through art in different cultures and societies around the world. I chose to create a piece with a Swahili woman, wearing a turban with butterflies flying around her. The butterflies represent freedom, power, beauty, and growth. That was the symbolism I chose for my project.

• I used many different mediums: color-pencil, graphite, paint, markers, and metallic gold butterflies, in order to make the piece have more texture and life, which I think helped bring attention to the woman in the center.

Grow: I would had liked to make some things like the hair color a bit more stronger, because I feel that they are a bit soft. I would have probably added more subjects in the image as well.

Symbolism: The background is used to give the drawing more life.

Glow - I think I did a good job on the realistic aspect of representing the still life, and the monochromatic color palette keeps it simple.

Grow - I think I could have emphasized the shadows even more to make the image more dramatic, and I could have incorporated more symbols to demonstrate my theme.

What was learned about your SI in this piece?

Grow: I would like to improve the anatomy, I feel that is not look like a natural body of a woman.

Symbolism: The symbolism is born from being a representation of the girl's head, each of the fragments, whether through the use of spirals or literal representations of other people, symbolizing feelings, thoughts or emotions. The fact that she is naked is a key step, since I like to reflect vulnerability in this way. In my drawings, in terms of materials, I can express and find an interweaving between the background and the anger. The background was made very roughly with dry and rigid colors.

Grow: I wanted to alternate between heavy black ink and then thinner designs to have a sense of balance, but I ended up working on designs by bouncing around the page and I feel even though I tried my best to stay true to the pattern, there are some mess ups here and there. I also wish I could have come up with more original patterns instead of repeating them a couple of times around the page.

Symbolism: The bright colors behind the black and white character is meant to symbolize creativity, power, innovation, etc. I wanted it to feel like an explosion of emotion of color to imitate how the process feels while doing something you genuinely love so much, or being somewhere "in the zone". There are small fears within some of the patterns showing that the thought process isn't always great, but there are also fun patterns, musical instrument references and more, to show loves, enjoyment, what I'd think about in the moment of doing this specific action. It's also supposed feel a little surreal, like the person(me) is in their own world while playing the guitar as shown.

symbol: The girl is shy, she's all pink and blushing. The butterfly and swirlies in the background/on butterfly emphasize the "fluttering" feeling the girl is feeling when she's shy.

Grow: I need to do much better with colors once again. In order to improve my color schemes I will rigorously study color combinations, I am also going to make this palette prior to the final to limit time wastage. I also felt as though I rushed the landscape, which means I need to work more frequently and for longer periods to finish early so I can make any last minute changes. Lastly I most definitely need to as for more feedback, because had I not received feedback during the sketching process my final piece would have been very different.

Grow: The colours are very bright and unnatural and I wish that I did a better job of finding a matching colours to make it more realistic. And I still have a very empty background…

Since my investigation focuses on heritage and how tattoos are used within it, Māori is one of the most common cultures in this topic. The facial tattoo, called moko, typically represents heritage, social status, and personal achievements in Māori culture. The feathered adornments and traditional attire of the woman are used as a cultural accessory.

Further more, the position for my art piece is called hongi, a common greeting involves pressing noses and foreheads together. the hongi symbolizes the sharing of ha, or breath of life, between two individuals. This act of sharing breath represents a merging of spirits and acknowledges the other person’s presence, identity, and life force.

Traditionally, the hongi was a way to welcome newcomers, marking them as one of the people and no longer a stranger. It emphasises the idea that all humans are interconnected and part of a larger family.

The symbols represented are the dogs which mean the enemies listed on the verse. The verse is not meant to be taken literally as its all metaphorically written. The dogs represent the troubles and evil the author (David) feels during his life and hes just telling this to God.

The black-and-white tones create a cold, mysterious atmosphere. Deep shadows and gray gradients add a sense of oppression, showing the inner struggle of cult followers. They gather around a leader or idol, relying on the false safety the cult provides.

To show the irrational side of the dark deity, the artwork includes distorted, exaggerated shapes that break usual proportions, symbolizing the madness in cult beliefs. This surreal design brings out the dark aspects of crime and cults even more strongly.

Glow: I like my details and features that I drew. I think I contrasted the two features of American and Chinese well.

For my materials, I plan to use colored pencils and experiment with chalk pastels for a soft look. I also want to include glitter in my project in order to create a sense of awe.

With this prompt, I hope to make my SI stronger by proving we all find reasons to live in different things, even if they're very small and mundane. I want to prove that something like food can cheer people up and give us a new sense of motivation.

Glow - I am really liking how the texture of the brick is coming out so far and the way the leaves stand out against the bricks.

Grow - Working on my project faster! But also defining my shapes more clearly with paint. Some areas are a bit muddy or easy to lose, and I want to work on my ability to show detail with less differentiation.

My project is meant to represent the idea of being left behind; it was inspired by the AP Lang essay last year that focused on the value of historical sites in cities where the surroundings become less organic and more metal and concrete. I wanted to reflect that same idea of being stuck in time while the world progresses around you, the idea that people can move forward without you. Obviously, the symbolism for my sustained investigation centers around plant life, so the inclusion of plants growing over the reminiscent areas contrasting with the lack of plants outside shows the movement humanity is taking away from nature as a whole.

For my material I plan to use sketch to try to exaggerate darks and lights. I want to show contrast in this piece to mimic the contrast in two lifestyles.

From this SI, different childhoods can be seen. Same ethnicities growing up in different backgrounds can lead to complete opposite habits and knowledge learned.

Glow: I like how the point of the piece is the focus and what you look too first.

In this drawing I want to refer to the absence of a person in your life where the only way you can see that person or feel that person is in a dream. I want the drawing to reflect the emotional turmoil of longing and escapism found in dreams. The irony is palpable when the place of peace, sleep, becomes the very stage where memories and desires unfold.

Everyone at least a few times in their life they do something they regret, and things don't go so great. I found out it was actually more common than people think and I want to show that change in a person, and how, when they actually work towards it and WANT to get better, they can grow as a person and learn to be happy despite a past that might haunt them.

There will be multiple symbols and transitions from innocent colors, to dark, angry, gloomy, to healing, brighter colors that represent the point in time the photo is in. There will be multiple props and items around the scene that will depict change, maybe bad experience, healing, destruction, naivety, and more through a passage of time with 3 different photos. I also want to add senses of other things, to make it feel like a metamorphosis transition, so there will be things displayed showing aging, change in form, and etc.

I learned about how much young girls worry about their appearance compared to boys. I also learned that this is linked to mental health issues.

learned in SI from piece: I learned that emotions can have similarities from their source. For example sadness and anger can be the emotion a person has when they're upset, they can cry or get mad. So in this piece I wanted to make a connection between the two, both the emotions create a sense of alertness or fear for a person as they're both tied to being a negative emotion.

symbolism: the main focus of one person and the two sides of colors and facial expression. This makes it so that there's a connection between the two emotions, sadness and anger with it's color. I'd probably add something more to make it look like it's mixing.

What I depict is the character's distorted sense of justice. He thinks he is fighting against injustice. However, behind this distorted cognition is his neglect of the value of life and the wrong judgment formed under long-term psychological pressure. He did not realize that his behavior would bring irreparable harm to others and push himself into the abyss of destruction.

Evidence: Spartans were know for their fundamental strength and discipline, which made them a perfect example of strength in history. As for bodybuilders, they look very strong and many of the can lift an unfathomable amount of weight. Lastly i wanted to show the future of strength or power. To do this i though of remote controlled drone that are used in warfare. These drone are currently being used, so they do not exactly depict the future.

Symbolism: The main symbolism used is strength, and i used the spartan, bodybuilder, adn UAV drone to symbolise the evolution of power and strength.

Materials:For my sketches i used a pencil and color pencils, but for my final piece I plan to use procreate. I will also experiment with different brushes.

Lessons: I had not truly realised the extent in which power and strength has evolved through time, and how the meaning of strength has changed through time.

The woman is going to be only shaded with darker colors to represent the self destruction part, showing that she is not yet 100% happy. Everything around her is going to be bright and colorful, expressing that she is on the right path to regrowth.

I plan to use marker as a base with details enhanced by colored pencil if needed. I may also use ink to define portions if needed.

The art piece will be very colorful, the colors representing different makeup patterns, drawing the onlookers' eyes toward the different makeup styles in those cultures. To show the strength and symbols specifically, they will be represented through brighter colors.

I used a sort of symbolism in the first panel of the drawing at the right, due to the character being in a younger age, I purposefully added details like toys and a tv to show a younger stage of her life.

Symbolism and SI Correlation: For this piece, I wanted to expand on my SI topic by exploring life through the lens of a camera, with the film paper/old photos acting as memory and capturing this time. This format also ties into a tryptic, as there will be three main stills representing the past, present and future. The past, which is slightly overexposed, represents idealized memories of my past/childhood. The present will be a depiction of struggling to make the most out of this time, and how it is wasted by dwelling too much on the past and future. I think I want to make the future either blank, representing the fact that this time hasn't happened yet and cannot be captured, or a more chaotic scene of different futures I could envision for myself, that is a really underdeveloped photo (because it hasn't fully happened/developed yet).

Materials Used: For my sketches I used graphite and watercolor, and I plan to do the same for my final project. However, I also was thinking about incorporating some aspect of real film paper/photos, but I am ensure on how to do this yet.

Symbolism: Focused on the emotion of joy, I chose the symbol of sunflowers to create the delightful tone and the joyful mood of the drawing.

Materials: For the materials, I tried different color schemes between markers and color pencils to decide which is better for my topic. I found out that for the sunflowers, It's better to use color pencils because the texture made the yellow look more light and solid. For the background, I choose blue marker to demonstrate the azure sky, which looks watery and deep.

For materials, I tried exploring with marker but I dont like how it came out. So I think I am going to just use Pencil.

The first piece shows clues on his body revealed under special lighting.

The second piece portrays the entire crime scene, with an elderly witness in the foreground—the only person who saw the crime.

The third piece is more abstract, summarizing the case while expressing the officers' confusion about the bird-man's strange appearance and unusual cause of death. It combines mystery with a supernatural tone.

The three pieces follow the sequence of the investigation, from discovering the clues to unraveling the mystery.

I explore the theme of crime and the dark influence of cults. It reflects the tension between human reasoning and the incomprehensible rituals of hidden groups. The bird-headed man symbolizes the intersection of the bizarre and the criminal, I want to create a sense of unease and curiosity about the forces behind his death.

In my paintings, he is in the dark, his hands are stained with blood, and the blood has even blurred his vision. The anger covers his personality, and only the revenge mentality drives him to move forward.

If he stops here, then all the sacrifices before will seem too ridiculous, and the road that is pieced together by sacrificing his own personality can only go on. He will not stop, he insists on his own way, soberly indulging, with a sacrificial fanaticism, towards the destined end.

My investigation delved into the things that motivate people to live. In my research, I learned that some people decide to live for very mundane things, like wanting to eat pastries from their favorite place. It's a message that shows why little things matter so much.

I used chalk pastels to portray the roughness and dark atmosphere that the bird is experiencing, meanwhile the colored pencils in the bakery bring more saturation and color to represent the happiness throughout it. Both the bird and the raincloud are hit by the rays, all to further portray how seeing this sale was brightening up that dark world.

Materials used: I only used a pencil, however for the final piece i intend to use procreate brushes i have not used in the past. I also want to use a very differently color scheme unlike my previous pieces.

What have i learned: I learned about the immense relative strength that dung beetles possess. This lead me to the conclusion that strength does not always come from size.

I plan to use black and white to present this work, depicting a scene similar to the symbol of silence, such as a mouth that cannot shout out a sound or a blocked throat, representing the oppressed victims. At the same time, I want to try multiple perspective layouts, such as collage style, to show the complex history and responsibility.

For this project, my goal is to explore the profound impact of war on mankind and the challenge to human nature, and the picture should include the suffering of war victims. At the same time, I hope that the audience can feel the cruelty of war and its harm to innocent lives, and increase attention to peace.

I learned that even one holiday can be changed based on culture. One point of view towards one culture can be entirely different from people of different cultures and backgrounds. These intricate details may also be hidden to individuals who celebrate the traditional holiday.

The symbolism in my work shows the fantasy of our world and how these things provide us with motivation to live and explore. It'll include Koi fish, representing prosperity, and alien counterparts. These counterparts represent meeting new people, and how connecting with something new can show us a new perspective. The beach scene connects these two worlds, ocean and space, and puts into perspective how there is so much potential for us. Beaches also symbolize tranquility and peacefulness.

With this piece, people learn that my SI focuses on the possibilities out there, and that these things can motivate us to explore and appreciate life a little more.

What was learned about your SI in this piece? I learned that the average height for a teenage girl is 5'4

I plan to use colored pencils on a small final paper to attempt realism on a reasonable scale for the time allotted.

When preparing for this piece, I have realized that I am focusing closely on conveying the message with real-world imagery, but I want to explore the possibility of more abstract work going forwards.

I learned how to make room perspectives and object perspectives by using vehicles like the train.

The composition - wanting the background direct the view towards the sky (constellation) so the clouds, greenery, and even character will sort of warp in a circular motion.

the constellations(real and not real) - the person's interpretation of the sky, everyone's views are different, and what better way to display that than to see through the eyes of the artist and how they see a collection of stars to be made out to be.

the words - There will be words in the sky displayed "there's always a bigger picture"(maybe) and i want it to look as if its also glowing like the constellations and to form a sort of feeling of motivation that all artist's need at some point in their journey.

I learned that a lot of artists find inspiration from the stars, some see the same thing, and some create their whole own perception of the stars. It gives them that inspiration to create the things they see to show other people a different take on the sky that humans have been looking at for thousands of years and still to this day they find new constellations weather they're made up or not.

The story I want to create is about a strange creature born from the evil thoughts in a person's heart, occupying a human body as a shell and learning what humans do.

I plan on using color pencil for this piece so I could blend the at my own pace and control it to my own liking.

What I learned while researching is that its like a chain reaction. For example a guy like Cbum, he has multiple 1st place titles in bodybuilding and people take that as insporation to get that crazy effect while not caring for the serious effects that come with it.

Symbolism: The bright colors displayed only on the women shown in the front view of this project is used as a form of emphasis, contrast, but also symbolism for this positive and upbringing environment and space that has been created through the women shown in contrast to the black/white/grey tones of the other people in the background.

Artists throughout history have incorporated bones/skulls in their work to display a "memento mori", a Latin phrase that means "remember you must die". It's a symbolic or artistic trope that serves as a reminder of the inevitability of death. This mortal reminder can remind your viewers as to why they should care about your topic now, before it's too late.

I learned that even one holiday can be changed based on culture. One point of view towards one culture can be entirely different from people of different cultures and backgrounds. These intricate details may also be hidden to individuals who celebrate the traditional holiday. 

Through this investigation i was given the opportunity to learnt about the strongest creature on earth relative to size. This gave me further insight into the animal kingdom, which has interested me since i was young.

Materials: i experimented a variety of different brushes to add texture. For the vegetation in the background i used the Blackwood, Glover. Sawtooth, and Stubble brush. I layered all the brushes with different shades of green to get my desired textures. For the ground and baseball texture i used the Furneaux Brush which gave solid texture to the ground making it resemble gravel.

This art piece represents a piece of the world that is often forgone: Light. Theia, the Greek Goddess of Divine Light, is known for being an ethereal presence in the world, the one who gave sight to all of humanity.

I used warm tones to express strength, wisdom, and light, which Theia represents in Greek Culture. As I refined the piece, I focused on achieving a balanced composition where light and form complemented each other to highlight the figure. The initial version had less emphasis on light; I revisited the work to enhance the glowing orb
and dots, which helped communicate the spiritual and powerful nature of the subject.

This work depicts an evil spirit, and the core idea is: "Humans are made up of bodies and organs, so by removing organs and constantly replacing bodies, you can live forever." The character in the painting is a "middleman" formed by the fragments of the evil god and some resentment of humans, who survives by constantly imitating and occupying bodies.

Materials used: I used acrylic paint, chalk pastel, and colored pencil to create this piece.

I used a variety of materials, including: watercolors, pencil, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and highlighters. I struggled to bring exciting details to my piece, and using small amounts of acrylic paint helped my details stand out (stars, wave foam). I decided to challenge myself and use highlighters to bring a vivid feeling, especially on the planet I depicted.

With this work, I hope to convey the message that exploring the world and going on adventures is one of the reasons why life is worth living, and even the act of dreaming and imagining these things is a very precious thing. Sometimes it is important to find peace in life, and ponder upon these incredible things that may not be too far from our reach.

In this piece I wanted to show the wonder and yearning for motivation and inspiration. It depicts a character staring up at the stars, constellations forming things that connect with this specific person as well as a quote saying “never stop looking” The constellations of our sky have always been depicted very similarly through time or completely different depending on how a person sees them, showing that the human creativity could be endless just like the universe the character stares right at.

I used water color, colored pencils, markers, sharpies, and gel pens to create highlights, shading, and most of the base colors.

I wanted to convey the idea that even when some things are set in stone, the most well known things can be seen and perceived completely differently by anyone and no one is the same, and that our minds and our creativity is limitless (like the universe)

snowboarding and flipping in the air. I used bright colors and the 3-D quality of the woman popping off the page to give a sense of emphasis and contrast to the piece. I used bright pink to outline the movement of the snowboarder to highlight and symbolize femininity, through this color, as well as to showcase the empowering feeling of accomplishment through sports that are often more male focused, especially within media. This piece displays how women can be feminine as well as strong, athletic, powerful, and push boundaries within all of their passions and dreams. I researched many influential women in sports and snowboarding for this project as inspiration to this piece and the meaning behind it such as Jamie Anderson and Chloe Kim. My reference image I found of a video posted on social media that I used as inspiration for the pose and motion of the snowboarding trick.In order to experiment and develop this idea I used various different sketches that utilized

contrasting compositions as well as materials. I used colored markers, graffite pencils and a

composition of different elements and sports in my original idea that I used and revised to

develop this artwork.

I learned more about the importance of symbolism in works, understood my subject a little more, and looked for people who could relate to what my piece was going to represent.

Although life is inevitable, nature is full of tolerance for death. I want to use cold colors such as dark gray, dull green and brown to reflect the desolation of the content of the picture, and use rust red as a contrast for the main objects such as bones. I want to add a protagonist as a bystander who witnesses the cycle of life.

Details such as moss, vines and flowers growing on the bones represent the healing power of nature and show the cycle of life reborn from death.

I will use darker colors to shape the overall picture to highlight the heaviness of death, and then use bright colors to light up the girl's eyes to show her determination, and paint flowers such as red spider lilies and mandalas around the picture, as well as snake elements to highlight the "original sin".

I want to use colored pencil to be able to show small details as well as adding color to show the traditional red of the Chinese dragon which I wouldn't be able to do with pencils.

The symbolism in my piece is portrayed by the composition of three people 2 women and one man who are shown with parts of their face in almost x-ray vision, as skulls and bones. This symbolizes that even with the judgments, hate, discrimination, prejudice, and inequality that so many women, minorities, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, religious differences and so many others experience today, we are all the same bones in the end and underneath all this negativity humans and society have created is unwarranted as well as cruel and that is the message I wanted to portray within my piece. On the top and bottom of the piece is text or a poem that reads:

“when we came into this life there was only nature and love and life we’ve created these ideals, stigmas, prejudice this struggle of humankind against one another only when we are gone nature takes her great claim and swallows us into the earth, will we learn that we are all the same bones.^”

I experimented with markers and Sharpie for a bold impression, as I want this piece to stand out. I plan to use a color scheme of mainly yellow and purple to have that allusion to the day of the dead celebration.

For my final piece, I plan to follow the composition of the top right image. This is a girl watching a translucent clock that shows her skeletal reflection, depicting her motivation with the reminder of death. Additionally, I plan to add marigolds and other symbolic details.

I've understood grief better because when I get sad whenever I think of this idea because I think about the eventual death of my family members and friends in the future. Causing me to want them to live longer and be safe so that they live longer.

In my artwork, I would like to recreate the demolition of the Old Prentice Women's Hospital at the Northwestern campus in Chicago, Illinois. I would draw rubble from the dilapidated building.

I would like to use colors such as gray and black to emphasize the "drab" appearance of the building as well as the demolition of a representation for a notable architectural style.

As for materials, I want to use graphite pencils as they are most suitable for the grayscale I want to be shown in my artwork.

My drawing is described from the perspective of the seabed. I want to guide the audience's perspective into the deep sea, giving a feeling of being lost and unknown, and making people feel awe of the ocean. After the experimentation of the materials, I decided to use colored pencils. Of all the synthesis, I want to use shipwrecks and decaying remains to represent the tragedies of the past. The ghostly fish and human figures, as well as the dreamy light, are all manifestations of the truth.

Synthesis: I experimented with paints which I have no prior knowledge of. I saw this as a good opportunity to become a more well rounded artist.

I used watercolor for this piece, and layered colored pencils on top. Due to the smudged result, I also used a marker to outline the figures and keep the piece more neat.

I included symbols like marigolds, known to symbolize the connection between life and death. Additionally, I included references to my past works, like the silly figure and the bird. The mirror is a way to show the skeleton as a reflection of the girl. I was inspired by the celebration 'day of the dead,' and how the deceased are brought back to life despite passing away, and gives a different meaning to what most consider life is.

The idea for this painting came to me very quickly, appearing in my mind almost instantly, but it was not a clear concept, so I chose to think while painting, deepening the story of the painting while drawing.

In order to show the morbid and obsessive love I wanted, I referred to the texture of oil painting and used a paint brush to apply thick paint.

For my medium, I want to try and work with a Charcoal pencil and blendhing stump to create shadows and depth.

For my final 5, I'm going to combine flowers with the skulls. The goat skull is the major image of the artwork, with red spider lilies growing behind the skull. There are roots reaching down the earth, like the flowers bleeding into the ground. I’m going to draw the flowers red, leave the skull grey with shadows, and make the background solid black, to create a contrast between the objects. This also leads to the thinking of mortal, which basically is the question of death and existence. Since ancient times, skeletons have appeared in paintings many times as an important painting image. I can not only be human skulls, but also animal skulls. The image of flowers blooming from inside of the skull stressed a feeling of mourning the loss of life and although living things will die, the charm and the value of life will last forever.

I thought of distorting the shadows of the characters, or distorting objects, like Salvador Dali's distorted clocks. At the same time, to show crime, I can refer to the works of René Magritte and make the gunshot turn into flowers.

My drawing is based on the context that the character is longing for freedom and for a life full of journey but at the same time, she is sitting under a dinosaur fossil while contemplate this. Dinosaurs are creatures that used to exist millions of years ago, but what now remains of them is their remains, the remains of a lost time. The character is contemplating the future and what things she can leave to the world just how the dinosaurs left something even after millions of years of not existing.

I plan to use colored pencils and crayons to really portray a feeling of nostalgia and remind people of trends from the past. I also intend on making the artwork humorous and lighthearted in order to bring a smile to the viewer :)

My sketches are based off of the feelings of an old man looking at his past wishing he could go back to that moment to be with his loved one. I’m planning on using marker, and a combination of printmaking and collage to replicate the work of Gustav Klimt in his painting “the kiss” which is what my final project is based on.

In the artwork, the women's hospital is dilapidated and is slowly being overrun by the kudzu vine. It is also in proximity of a pristine, modern building.

I chose to do this artwork in graphite pencil to emphasize the gloom that people feel when looking at these types of buildings. I felt as though that feeling could only be shown through a grayscale drawing.

There are going to be a collection of three main colors being pinkish reds, blues, and dark purples/blacks which i am hoping to created a strong contrast with also lighting and reflection against the body while displaying an open heart with some ribs, spinal bones, and the pelvic bone.

I wanted it to show even the simplest of colors and a very single subject can still hold so much meaning and story to it just with the form and how the colors around it interact with the target.

This character is my original character in Fujimoto's comic "Chainsaw Man". Her original body was a demon, which originated from people's fear of shadows. Now she is a special existence that combines demons and humans. She is a weakened form of the demon in the human world, but retains the power of the demon.

My finished product will imitate the style of "Chainsaw Man" and use realistic techniques to shape it. Although this character's identity is a demon, it is essentially born out of human fear; at the same time, the appearance she shows is very different from her original body. Describe your Artwork: This work of art features a central microphone symbolizing voice, communication, and expression. The background consists of striking geometric sections, inspired by the artwork of Andy Warhol.

Idea and Processes: I wanted to show something that represented music and I wanted to combine it with pop art.

Materials:

I used the "Dove Lake" paint brush in procreate to give the poster an aged look, as well as overall texture. I also used the "light pen" brush to write the words.

My artwork depicts a unicorn flying in space, as a figure and a bird fly with it. There is a story book in the foreground, similar to a bedtime story. The feeling I wanted for this piece was nostalgia, and a sense of childish joy that can immerse the viewer into a short fantasy.

I wanted the message of this piece to be about how books impacted my view of things and how they are a staple in childhoods. Reading stories can help us learn how to get through hardships and find an escape from reality. Overall, my message is that life is all about escaping to a happy place, all inspired by the works of Lisa Frank.

The materials I used were markers and some colored pencils. I chose specific markers that I first received when I found my dream of becoming an artist years ago; this is to emphasize the feeling of nostalgia and to show just how far I've come.

I will combine the two themes of surrealism and crime. I use water color. I used contrasting colors and some old-looking colors to show it.

I combined these two elements, a nun and a goat. I gave the protagonist a crazy but glamorous appearance, highlighting her coolness and evilness. Her identity as a crazy person is very suitable for the theme of crime. She is the complete opposite of the gentle nun.

The synthesis of colored pencils and watercolor pens gives the character's face a nice texture. So I chose to lay down the colored pencils first, and then apply the watercolor pens. Through experimentations on watercolor I found that the watercolor pens that were almost out of water could be used to show the wall. This added a sense of antiquity to my painting.

Idea & Processes: Western industrialization and modernization had a strong impact in asian coutnries, especially china, and western technology continues to have influences in china.

Synthesis & Materials: I wanted to use watercolor to imitate old chiense artworks with ink, specically called ink and wash painting, which was one of the "four arts" of the Chinese Scholar-official class.

This work is supposed to show a scenery of dinosaurs hiding and stalking an oncoming pair that is dealing with a wild wolf in the woods. I was going for a sort of scary and uncanny feel because the pair does not know that behind the wolf there are creatures that are not supposed to even exist or be alive anymore waiting and lurking.

This artwork connects to my last SI, where a dinosaur fossil was used as a metaphor of the things from the past that still remain for the future. In here, the dinosaurs represent the things from the past that haunt the future that is to come.

Creatures that are lurking and waiting as the pair approaches the forest, it is supposed to stand for the past events that wait to come back, even when you think they are fully gone. When concept artists create their concepts, they have to focus into the elements that are meant to be final, elements such as the tone, the landscape, and the subjects used are meant to convey an importance of what they are illustrating.

To convey the dark tone, I used charcoal for the main elements such as the raptors, the Spinosaurus, the Pteranodon and the Dilophosaurus, the Dilophosaurus was given a mix of yellow and brown pastel with black and brown charcoal for spots and red color pencil for the crests. The other animals had black and brown charcoal put into them, as well as finger smudging with graphite for the background subjects and the trees.

I wanted this to have a dark tone, so I needed the use of heavily neutral colors and smudging to create a dark environment, smudging really helped to remark the dark colors that I wanted to go with.

As a reference, I used an illustration from Gustave Dore of Dante's Divine comedy.

It's an artwork of a man holding a photo of himself and his wife on their wedding day. They are holding each other close and embracing each other with a kiss, there are watercolor droplets to represent fallen tears.

This idea was made so that the audience can see that the man holding the photo is sad and or heartbroken from the memory of the photo.

I've planned on replicating the artwork of the original artist by using printmaking, paint markers, and watercolors.

When a forest burns down, you see the devastation and you think it’s all gone. But underneath are the seeds, that you can see sprout from the ground after the destruction settles. When there’s a death of an animal, it rots, and it’s repulsive, but in the end, the earth still takes it in and new life can be seen encasing the carcass. Within the terrifying and disgusting darkness, there is always a light and a beauty that you can admire and hold close and that’s what I want to portray.

Plants, the death of a deer (the strongest symbol of innocence, but also power and death) accompanied by antlers, flowers resembling the meaning of death, acceptance, etc. Moon phases and small symbols to represent the goddess Artemis who is a virgin goddess who also is paired with deer but also can be seen with rebirth from time to time.

 I used the types of flowers in my drawing because the specific colors and species represent strong emotions, love, life, but also sorrow, anger, death, growth, and overcoming something. The deer skull represents death, and loss, and grief, but the star and the deer antlers on the person represent hope, life, and power over one’s self.The leaves and plants represent the overcoming of grief, and life reclaiming what once belonged it the earth, growth over something, ever lasting life and ever with death and depressing situations it is still able to heal.

The art piece will be very colorful, the colors representing different makeup patterns, drawing the onlookers' eyes toward the different makeup styles in those cultures. To show the strength and symbols specifically, they will be represented through brighter colors.

There’s a pink figure surrounded in darkness. They’re crouched over and holding themselves in both an anxious and protective way. There are ribs, ripping through the muscle, injuring the person, but also protecting the blue glowing heart within.

Idea: The struggle with self identity concerning gender and manipulation.

Process: I used the limited colors to create contrast of colors that would pop while exhibiting strong expressionism with the body’s form. The text is meant to enhance the meaning, to help give a nudge in the direction intended to think.

Synthesis: I used a very messy and not easily able to control media which was oil pastels. There were smudges, color mixtures, and clear experimentation with the technique. This piece is meant to express the fear and struggle of finding out self identity within today’s standards. You’re expected to be someone, and you’re encouraged you’ll always be supported until you’re something that isn’t normal. There’s the fear expressed by the position, the showing of the back for vulnerability and uncertainty, and the fact that the ribs encase the blue heart. This is a more personal project as I was expected to present as a female when most of my life I’ve exhibited behaviors not normal to my stereotype. I was protected and told I was supported but I was still jabbed out, stray comments were rude, and I could hear behind my back family or friends saying something. The ribs represent the safety, but also the pain. The body shows the muscle, and not the skin, to show “what’s within” or “what’s underneath the surface”. Even more reference to vulnerability. And then the glowing blue heart, represents what’s true, what is the real you within your heart, showing the contrast of the colors. The figure is surrounded by a dark black and purple aura, showing the mixture of the blue and pink, while also the darkness surrounding the NEED to know what you are to fit into society standards. The words read “who will you be?” With torn up paper, not clean or precise, with the words scribbled in colors representing specifically the transgender and gender binary colors.

I'm also thinking of layering text over the project with soaked paper and ink, possibly excerpts of a poem called "Plants" by Olive Senior, which discusses (humorously) the takeover of plants through their personification.

This piece is a revised artwork from a past project in which I was focusing on decay and disease. In the future, I want to add more evidence of human influence by creating hands that reach over the flowers to represent human greed. The disease of the flowers emphasizes this point, representing the destruction humanity is willing to cause for our gain, the desecration of beautiful things for profit and power.

For materials, I wanted to focus on disease and distress. I chose grey-toned paper to explore a nonwhite base and layered white and black charcoal to create contrast. Charcoal was specifically chosen to represent the impermanence of nature, how human civilization quickly sweeps away nature when it is convenient for our development.

For Materials, I am thinking on sticking to the black and white look for this, so I used pencil with a blending stump for some shadowing. As well as a bit of charcoal pencil. I wanted some shadows to showcase the wrinkles someone would typically have if not had any cosmetic work done to them at an older age.

This verse shows how God is a loving and caring God but also fierce and fearful. Before Jesus, God helped his people fight against all the enemies who wanted to kill them. Back then, they used swords and armor, but I made the drawing about modern-day SWAT members in war.

As I refined the piece, I focused on achieving a balanced composition where light and form complemented each other to highlight the figure. The initial version had less emphasis on light; I revisited the work to enhance the glowing orb
and dots, which helped communicate the spiritual and powerful nature of the subject.

What I have learned:

I learned that women are often depicted in places of power but not always allowed to grow due to a patriarchal society.

This art piece I aim to create portrays a decisive moment of connection for me, of culture mixed with transformation. At the center is a woman gazing at the viewer, her expression meant to be reflective. Beside her is a smaller image of another woman, carrying a matka (water pot) on her head as she walks into the distance—this connection between the two figures reflects the journey of heritage and the passage of time.

This art piece captures the essence of movement, grace, and culture. The woman who dances in the center is adorned in traditional Indian attire, expressing my heritage. The patterns surrounding her and her pose represent one of my greatest passions: dance. She describes the transformation from human to fantasy, from reality to imagination. 

This artwork is more than just a celebration of my heritage; it's a manifestation of my journey toward understanding myself. Who I am. It reminds me that I can take the beauty of culture and make it truly mine, adding some uniqueness to it. Life is a dance meant to be expressed fully.

Idea & Processes: For SI #7 and 8, I wanted to showcase the passage of time through both the growth of my neighborhood and me. This park is a significant place in my life because i spent a lot of my childhood playing here, and I still come to it today to hang out. I wanted to show how this place grew with me, and how it became more developed over time with new houses and the growth of the plants there.

Synthesis & Materials: The old photo would be in a sepia tone, and the new photo would be colorful and bright, to showcase this time passage. I experimented with some colored pencils and the final image will also have a plastic sheet glued on top of it using modge podge, to give the effect that it is a shiny photograph.

I experimented with oil pastels as I wanted a very rich color, and I intend to use acrylic paint as well. I chose these mediums because I am also not always successful in them, but I want to persevere and work with these difficult mediums to convey the idea that you shouldn't give up.

I'm planning on using colored pencil for my final product and for composition it will be the same woman looking into a big mirror folded into three but from three perspectives from past where she was beautiful, present where she considers herself ugly and the future where after she gets surgery it results in her being in pain and scarred.

This artwork is going to be way more abstract compared to my other pieces. I going to draw Jesus face using light colors and have my background be in a darker tone, perhaps have the background be sins or Satan with Jesus shining in contrast.

I heavily relied on smudging for this artworks, when coloring the dilophosaurus for example, I mixed yellow and brown pastel with charcoal and smudged them to create the yellowish brown look. I used ink for the lineart, specially on the bigger one for the spinosaurus. I chose this mediums because they most likely were going to help to remark more the colors and the texture of the dinosaurs, while color pencil was used as the medium for the human characters.

I searched about war crimes. According to international humanitarian law, knowingly attacking medical personnel who can be clearly identified and are performing medical duties is considered a war crime.

At the same time, I searched for pictures about war crimes. I think war crimes also include destroying the environment and destroying families. So I plan to draw a war theme about separation and reunion, and at the same time show the cruelty of war.

tones on the image in the right along with warm colors to symbolize wellness and warmth. This piece is happening

moments after SI #7 and showcases the character finally placing the piece in, restoring the wall, and essentially smiling at the end (the first time i have drawn him smiling the entire SI). Him smiling at the end symbolizes how he is finally done being stuck in the past and is now moving on and looking forward to the future.

I wanted to draw a more survival focused piece to help conclude my investigation, so i decided to draw two figures and the iconic sisyphus pushing a boulder up a mountain.

She was once an angel. Although she was in the paradise, her heart was in the world. She was not good at empathizing with others, and she did not like the constraints of heaven. She longed for freedom. Later, because heaven disappeared, she drifted to the human world. After losing the constraints of heaven, she no longer paid attention to the wishes of mortals and began to let herself go.

This painting depicts her in the human world. The clothes on her body and the cigarette butt in her hand are evidence of her "rebellion". The feathers falling behind her hint at her past and present situation. The sadness and confusion between her eyebrows show that even if she leaves the constraints of heaven, she still cannot find a home in the human world.

Idea and process:

The depth at which you begin to drown within a passion.

Taking both things that im very passionate about, marine and art, i pushed them together in this. I want to try to show that you can enjoy it and the beauty that comes with it, but if you’re not Careful, it can have too much of a grasp on you until you are drowning in it and there would be little ability to recover. Just like drowning, once it happens, you can’t really come back, but sometimes, if you’re fast enough, and you put enough work in, you can recover and maybe even one day swim again, you just need to know how to balance your life with your passions and careers and not become too absorbed within them.

I’m going to be using digital materials this time as I have been going through a rough burnout with digital art recently and i want to try to combat it with using this piece, I don’t want to let it overcome me and I want to be able to “swim back up” and come back to my comfort with making regular art without falling behind or burning out.

Women in Male dominated environments as an experience.

This piece shows a portrait of Hypatia of Alexandria who was the only woman in the school of Athens in ancient greece. She was an astronomist, mathematician, philosopher and so much more. Unfortunately she was mobbed by a group christian men who accused her of being a witch and brutally murdered her by detaining her, stripping her of clothes, and skinning her alive with oyster shells. I wanted to portray an ominous and heartbreaking feeling within the art. I used soft chalk pastels layered with paint pens, oil pastel, and colored pencil to create an airbrushed and smooth look to the portrait. I wanted this texture as it highlights the innocence and purity and femininity of the woman displayed, in contrast to the aggression around her shown by bloody hands reaching out. There are also worn and tattered “newspapers” describing her that frame the image. I used a bright red watercolor for the blood since the viscosity would allow it to drip down the page, I also used dark watercolors around the edges of the pages to intensify the dark and aggressive tone of the piece in contrast to the middle where the portrait lays. you can also see shadows of the hands reaching towards her to symbolize her nearing death.

I researched how the female form and creation of life intertwine with nature.

Describe your Artwork-  I can describe this piece as experimental, using both traditional and digital techniques. I was inspired by the painting The Scream, a composition created by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch in 1893. My piece deals with the complexes related to self-image, due to beauty stereotypes, and how we strive to be replicas of what we are told, and when we are not what society tells us, we feel suffocated in beauty.

What should we be seeing?-

• The contrast of the three pretty girls in contrast to the drowning girl.

• The big letters that describe her feelings but only she can see them.

What is the feeling you were going for?-

A bizarre experience, thinking, why is no one helping her? Knowing she's about to die, but no one is interested in stopping it, because they can't see it, because they are focused in their own business.

Idea & Processes: What’s happening in the artwork and how did you enhance that message?

• I used red color to draw the audience's attention.

• I put in the background a calm tropical environment to contrast the real situation that is happening.

Synthesis & Materials: I used oil pastel to achieve effects such as impressionism and abstraction, because my intention was to make the situation as incredible and incomprehensible as possible.

I wanted the audience to see the soldiers’ despair and to express the cruelty of war in the form of black and white comics.

I used a prominent technique to express the situation of the soldiers on the battlefield, with smoke that looked like both sea waves and explosions as the background.

I used a black liner pen. And I choose to draw a theme about war crime, so I practiced drawing some drafts of so;ders, adding helpless and painful emotion to ordinary pictures and scenes.

This work combines aspects of Mexican culture with women's empowerment. I wanted to showcase the importance of Dia de Los Muertos in Mexican culture, where women are represented as very powerful when they return to the earth on the Day of the Dead.

I used colored pencils and pastels to create this piece, with symbolism presented in the puppetry that the woman is doing. I utilized the art style of Alfons Mucha to bring the viewer's attention to the woman in the center, with the eyes slowly being drawn towards the puppets due to the lines that were created in the dress.

The work is supposed to depict a concept for a chase scene in a river. The purpose was to depict a desperate tone by having the two main characters shown trying to escape and evade the Spinosaurus in the river. This artwork is supposed to recreate the way concept artists design and conceptualize scenes that might be implemented or are part of the brainstorm process of a story. This can be applied in many fields such as movies, video games, and even books or comics. Materials that I used for the depiction was pastel for the waves, the background landscape, and the dinosaur. I used ink for lineart so the subjects would not get affected by the strong tone of the pastel. I also mixed some charcoal in the landscape and the creature. The choice of medium is important because pastel and charcoal are very strong materials that help me to play better with the use of colors.

The mood I was trying to achieve is one of sophistication and imagination a celebration of the way music creates identity and style. The artwork brings together the human body with the musical element to suggest harmony among art forms visual, musical, and emotional. By warping the skirt to resemble a piano, I used symbolism to show how much music can be ingrained in an individual's personality and expression. The spinning motion of the skirt creates movement and rhythm, mimicking the movement of music.

I experimented with numerous different textures more the mountain and well as different shading techniques for the characters.

This piece is a self portrait that depicts my expression of self and femininity. It includes symbolic elements that represent aspects that resonate with me such as my favorite flower, the lily flower. I also included a human heart to symbolize passion, love and joy. Two drumsticks frame the art that represents my love for drumming as well as music. I added water and ferns to add an element of fluidity and nature into this piece, I wanted it to show an inner soul-like representation of myself instead of only external. I used prisma-color pencils for the majority of the this artwork and then paint pen for the light yellow/white border.

Describe: This work shows me now, sitting on the same seesaw that was in a park in my neighborhood. This is around 11 years after we moved into the neighborhood, so everything is now developed with houses. Even the greenergy and bushes have grown, and you can see the swing set wood is rotting. Im looking off into the distance at this, with the same pose as the original picture.

I experimented with some colored pencils and watercolor to create it. The colors are vibrant to represent how it is in the present. The final image has a plastic sheet glued on top of it using modge podge to give the effect that it is a shiny new photograph.

Describe your Artwork- 

What should we be seeing? What is the feeling you were going for? Hunting the shoe, this piece acts as a metaphor, showing how as a Chinese American, there are times I chase western culture as a means to better fit into society.

Idea & Processes: For my investigation I wanted to bring awareness to dog breed that was of much importance in ancient china since they were hunting dogs. The tibetan mastif, representing Chinese culture, chases after western culture, which the shoe represents.

Synthesis & Materials: I wanted to use pencil to get the texture of the thick fur and also to imitate the old chinese artworks of these dogs.

This artwork is a final conceptualization of the story of Marion's Mad Quest. The work acts as the showcase of the story elements that were developed during the concept and brainstorm process. The artwork has a dark tone but it is meant to show the main character Marion along with other characters and subjects that were developed.

The message of the artwork was enhanced by the use of elements from past works such as the train,and the presence of dinosaurs. The poster works as a finalization of what the story making process has went through and what it reached.

For this artwork I used a lot of oil pastel and charcoal to create a dark tone and mood for the artwork, while at the same looking into fitting into a color scheme, I decided to use red as the main other color besides black to remark and highlight more the harmony between the subjects in the work.

In order to reflect the theme of crime, there is a common connection with the sixth work. For example, I used a rebellious girl to represent crime, and in order to enrich the picture, I added elements of peregrine falcon, rock and gothic. It is mainly to express the ambition, wildness, madness and desire for freedom of teenagers, but at the same time, it is possible to commit a crime due to an inexperienced decision.

Also, I used watercolor pens for most of the painting, however, I used color pencils to lay the base color for the characters.
