I have enrolled in an online course called Everyday Parenting: The ABCs of Child Rearing, which is also my project title. This study explores the psychology of a child and mainly focuses on behaviour-changing techniques. The lecture is given in a video and equipped with a few quizzes after each subtopic. I took note diligently from the lecture to see the big picture of this course and its learning objectives.

A few points to remember from week 1 are
1. special praise, which include enthusiastic voice tone, stating clearly the behaviour done, and non-verbal communication such as keeping a good eye level and a safe physical contact. This is used to encourage certain behaviours in child and differ from usual praise given daily.
2. antecedents, which are the settings to get the positive behaviours done. This includes verbal prompt and setting events. Setting events set the stage for the behaviour of the child. They can be positive or negative depending on how it is delivered. An example of positive setting event is offering assistance to the child to complete a task requested by the parent. A negative setting event includes giving a verbal prompt with an angry facial expression.
3. behaviours, which are moulded from shaping, simulation and modelling. Shaping behaviour refers to breaking down the behaviour into small steps so it would be easier to be followed. Simulation refers to pretend play on how the behaviour should be done. Modelling greatly falls on the parents to model the desired behaviour in their child.

Even though most of the inputs are common practices among Malaysian parents, I believe the techniques used are worth an improvement. There are parents or adults who literally implement, "do as I say, not as I do", and this is absolutely incorrect. Hence, modelling speaks volume when it comes to developing behaviour of the child. This is parallel to Islamic teaching as written by an Islamic scholar named Abdullah Nasih Ulwan, Ph.D., in his book titled "Tarbiyatul Aulad fil Islam" which translates to "Parenting in Islam". I am grateful to have an insight on human psychology generally as it benefits my everyday life.

The only difficulty I faced was the inability to apply the techniques directly on a child, since I am the youngest in the family. I have nieces and nephews but we do not live together and this sets a barrier to implement the techniques consistently. The only way to overcome this is to make full use of the time when they are around occasionally.

Two words to describe elective posting so far are eye-opening.

I’ve enrolled in an online course regarding Child Nutrition & Cooking for my elective posting. I’ve gone through all the videos and reading materials along with the quizzes.

Points to remember from  the 1st week are 
  1. Nutritions in a balanced diet played a crucial role for growing children.
  2. We can make meals more attractive for children by using different colours of vegetables such as carrots , broccoli and corn.
  3. Instead of buying instant food, we can make them from scratch for our child.

I’m beyond grateful to be able to learn about nutrition which not only apply to children but also to me in which I can prepare some simple yet nutritious meals when my new semester starts. This certainly make cooking and eating more fun.

So far, I’m coping well throughout the first week.

My plan for next week is to try to prepare some dish I’ve learnt from this course.

I have enrolled in an online course on machine learning in healthcare. It is an introductory course aimed at people of all levels. I have gone through the videos, reflections and quizzes that have been allocated for the first week. I also finished the supplementary reading materials given in an effort to further understand the new information

Points to remember from the first week are:- 
  1. The benefits of machine learning and how we can efficiently use it in a healthcare setting. The sheer amount of patient and clinical data that is available today makes it easier to implement machine learning in an accurate and efficient way.

  1. The concerns related to the implementation of AI in medicine such as workforce displacement, algorithmic bias, patient privacy and medicolegal responsibility as well as oversight and regulations,

  1. The difference between AI, machine learning and regular programming, For regular computer programming, the programmer writes a function that processes known inputs to produce known outputs. However, in medicine, this function might be too complex to code and machine learning might be more appropriate. This is when known pairs of inputs and outputs are fed into a computer and it ‘learns’ the function that maps the inputs to the outputs. With this function, we can then ‘train’ this model to process future data accurately.

  1. The weaknesses of machine learning that are primarily due to bias and issues with data formatting. For example, a machine learning model used to differentiate ECG readings may be picking up artifacts and other identifiable data to ‘cheat’ and guess their answers based on hospital data. This means that it might be skewed to certain populations based on prevalence in the data set used.


It was a bit challenging to absorb the new terminology and concepts as I have never had any background in coding or computer science in general. However, I rewatched the videos and took down notes as well as accessed other resources online to further deepen my understanding. 

If I had to describe my elective posting so far in two words, it would be challenging and interesting.

For week 2, I aim to stay on schedule and continue listening to the videos and attempting the quizzes provided.

I have enrolled in a journalism course in Coursera titled “Become a Journalist: Report the News! Specialization”. This week, I learned about everything there is to know about news mainly the ethics involved, elements in an article, types of news and the evolution of news reporting. I have completed the task in the course which includes listening to lectures, reading materials provided, participate in discussion and answered quizzes.

Few points from this week that I need to keep in mind are:
  1. News needs to be credible. Credibility is achieved by gaining trust from the public. The building blocks of gaining trust is being accurate, fair, balance, transparent, accountable and ethical.
  2. Unattributed language that runs longer than seven words is considered plagiarism. Other forms of plagiarism include patchwriting, self-plagiarism, idea theft and excessive aggregation.
  3. There are two types of news story; hard news and soft news. Hard news is a story with a time limit such as reporting an accident or a state election. Soft news does not have a time limit and are used to explore more on a certain topic.
  4. News elements include timeliness, magnitude and impact, prominence, proximity, unusualness and controversy or conflict. These are the elements to consider when choosing a story to report on.
  5. There are seven areas of journalism which are local news, features, sports, national & international news, science & environmental news and opinion writing.

I was amazed with how much I have learned about news itself this past week. As a student I have learned about the news format for essay writing however the things we learn in school and what they teach in this course is worlds apart. What I learned in school barely scratched the surface of what news is all about. This piqued my interest and I am excited to continue my course next week where I delved into gathering news information.

So far, I found the course itself to be pleasant. However, one thing does concern me – can the article I make by the end of this course be published? This question arises since my assessor asked me to explore if my works that are related to elective posting could be published. Although the course includes the topic of publishing, it is unfortunately at a later part of my elective posting at week four which is two weeks past the deadline for submitting the corrected application form. Hence, I may need to do my own research in the meantime and ask my local newspaper if they’re willing to accept a news column from an unlicensed, non-expert.

If I could describe my experience so far in two words, it would be “fun start”. I’m excited to see what is in store next.

Next week, I plan on continuing to the next topic in my course which is vetting and gathering information as well as researching for ways to publish my output which is a proper news report.

2. I have enrolled in an online course entitled "HTML, CSS, and Javascript for Web Developers", in which I will learn the basic tools that every web page coder needs to know, by learning how to implement modern web pages with HTML and CSS. 

For this week, I had learned the basics of HTML5 and set up the development environment, went over HTML5 basics like valid document structure, which elements can be included inside other elements and which can not, and learned about the meaning and usefulness of HTML5 semantic tags, and went over essential HTML5 tags.

3. Points to remember from the 1st week are
- HTML is to annotate content and define document structure and it has a right and wrong syntax. And it usually has a typical coding pattern to start the new project.

4. Actually the starting of this course was quite difficult for me as a newbie. The specific terms and the totally new language structure of the coding language did take me few days to understand and catch up. However, I feel quite excited to learn about the new things other than my professions. This helped me to be more respectful to other careers, such as programmer or coder. They are not as easy as what I think of before.

5. As I mentioned before, learning a totally new coding language is not that easy for a newbie. I had to learned from zero about the anatomy of HTML, the language structure and essential tags. Luckily, the lecture did prepare some other resources and recommended books in a link file as references. Thus, by referring those resources, I managed to catch up with the course.

6. Two words to describe the elective posting progress will be exciting and challenging.

7. My plan for next week will be learning the very basics of CSS3 to advanced concepts like floating and CSS rule conflict resolution. The module will be learning about Responsive Design using the CSS code as well as start introducing Twitter Bootstrap with its essential Grid System.

I enrolled in an online course Introduction to Calculus through Coursera for my elective posting. This course mainly focus on the foundation of calculus which is widely used in science, engineering and commerce. This course consists of videos, readings and quizzes.

Points to remember:
1. The Theorem of Phytagoras which is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle. If a and b are the lengths of the shorter sides of the right angled triangle, and c is the length of hypotenuse, then a^2 + b^2 = c^2.
2. Equations and inequalities consist of positive, negative, nonpositive and nonnegative real numbers which means that a real number x is called positive if it appears to the right of zero on the real number line, in which case we write a>0, and negative if it appears to the left of zero, in which case we write a<0.
3. The Cartesian plane or xy-plane consists of all ordered pairs (x,y) as x and y range over all real numbers, denoted by R^2 = {(x,y) | x,y ∈ R) containing a horizontal x-axis {(x,0) | x ∈ R} and a vertical y-axis {(y,0) | y ∈ R}. The axes are perpendicular and intersect at the origin O = O (0,0).

I was excited to actually enroll in this course because I love mathematics before I entered medicine. It was pretty hard since I did not learn anything about mathematics for the last 3 years. However, I will try my best to gain knowledge from this course.

Week 2 will be about introduction to the differential calculus so it will be harder. I am in Google UX Design Professional Certificate Course 1 that focuses on the foundations of user experience. 

Week 1 of the course focuses on getting to know the definition of user experience design, identifying difference between good or poor user experience and the respective practice quizzes. 

At this stage of the course that tests beginners to identify a good user experience by analysing some of the apps they have provided in the practice quizzes, some of the points to remember from the first week are: 
  1. A good user experience is when products are usable, equitable, enjoyable and useful 
  2. There are 5 stages in product development life cycle involving a team with different UX careers
  3. A UX designer must always think from the standpoint of a user

The course materials have been easy so far and I definitely enjoy it because of straightforward explanations done by the trainers through the videos but the practice quizzes proved to be a bit more challenging than my initial expectation of having it easy because it's only Week 1 of the course.  

Two words from Week 1 would be fun and interesting. 

I hope to do Week 2 on the same momentum.

2. I've enrolled in a nutrition program as stated above in the screenshot. This course mainly focuses on how we consume foods and their relation to chronic diseases. 

3. Points to remember: 
  • The rate of obesity is exploding after World War 3 due to the shift from traditional home-cooked food to processed and canned foods. 
  • William Prout, an English physician, proposed a human needs three macronutrients which are carbohydrates, fats and protein.
  • The glycemic index of food will affect the rate of insulin production hence in long term, it will affect its sensitivity and production. 

4. Feelings and Thought 
In the first week, I was doing a cryptography course and I didn't realise the difficulity level is advanced which actually requires me to make new crypto coins. So, I've requested to change to course and am beyond grateful because it is something I need recently at my part-time working at a pharmacy where some customers come for nutrition advice.  

5. Difficulties
As im doing two weeks of the course in a week, I'm having time constraints. And to make this worse, my part-time contract job is my biggest challenge. So, hopefully, I can overcome these time constraints. 

6. Two words to describe this course are grateful and blessed.

Hi everyone, I chose working as a kitchen crew for morning shift in a restaurant in Kelantan known as Su Tom Yam Restaurant & Delivery as my elective posting. My working hour is from 6.30am-2.30pm. My
jobscope mainly about making Roti Titab, Roti Bakar and Half-boiled egg.

Points to remember from week 1:
1- I learnt how to slice the bread, toast the bread, boiled the eggs and served the food according to the recipe and standard of Su Tom Yam Restaurant. It is important to follow all the steps and
and measurement as it will affect the taste and presentation of the food.
2. Hygiene and cleanliness is a priority here as I must wear gloves and cover my head during food preparation.

Feelings and Thought:
In the first week, it feels so exhausting for me as I need to wake up early in the morning and arrive there before 6.30am everyday.
Eventhough I only responsible for 3 menus, I can barely sit and relax as there is always order coming in.
However, I do enjoy my work as this is my first experience involve in food preparation. It gives me huge excitement and satisfaction everytime a customer
praised the food I did. 

Difficulties
The main problem for me is to keep up with the standard for slicing the
the bread. I find it very hard to slice the bread to meet the
size and shape per standard.
The only way to cope this problem is to embrace it and keep
slicing the bread with the correct technique and be open for criticism.
