Sudirman grew up in a simple environment. His father Karsid Kartowirodji is a worker at the Kalibagor Sugar Factory, Banyumas and his mother Siyem is a descendant of the Rembang Wedana. At the age of 8 months, Sudirman was adopted as a child by Toeridowati and Raden Tjokrosoenaryo, an assistant to the Rembang district attorney who is still Siyem's brother. His strong nationality and spirit lead him into his high recognition. At the end of his life, he died cause of tuberculosis, and buried on TMPN Kusumanegara, Yogyakarta.
