My name is Lilly and I am from Texas. On Christmas Day, my mom's side of the family goes to my Grandma's house. We always start the day by cooking, playing, and organizing presents under the tree. Then at lunch time, my grandma calls everyone into the kitchen where a feast is prepared. We pray and then eat until we are stuffed. After the meal, we open presents. We all bring gifts for each other and exchange them there.

Hi! My name is Vivian. I live in Heredia.
For my family, "holidays tradition" means no decoration at all, no special dinners, no gifts. I know, that looks like very sad and "grinch" but, I can tell you this is the most feeling of freedom.
When you are not subject to the celebrations in the traditional way, somehow, these dates become something nice to enjoy the simplest things in life: a sunset, the weather, seeing people happy.
You are not focused on buying things or spending money, you are focused on sharing with the people you want to share.
This started with my dad years ago and, of course, after a sad event.
But over the years this became liberating in some ways.
Now our celebration is to spend as much time as possible with the family, no matter what time of year. Sometimes in December we make tamales on the same day of the 24th, while we share and watch the "Toros a la tica". Then, we go to bed early and on the 25th, we are going to see the CR cycling tour that passes near our house.
Now we incorporate my little nephews into these activities, who come from Zarcero to go see the cycling tour.
I know it's not a common celebration, but it brings happiness to our hearts.
