The period of time after the Civil war was a period of time where the US tried to fix its existing problems such as the huge racial divide between white people and African Americans, slavery, the economy, from after the war. Reconstruction was a process in which we can see clear examples of decline in a push towards a more democratic society and also examples of progress in a push towards a more democratic society. After slavery had been abolished, African Americans were seeing a new light. 3 different amendments were written. The first amendment abolished slavery, the 14th grating African American's the right to be a citizen if they were born in the US, and the 15th granting African American Men the right to vote. Although all of these things were major major steps towards a more democratic society, we can also see clear examples of decline because the problem still exists. As these rights were slowly given to African Americans, southerners and others that were upset about this decided to take matters into their own hands. By starting organizations like the Klu Klux Klan. Which was a group of confederate soldiers who were angry about losing the Civil War and the rights being given to African Americans. So they decided to harass, kill, and terrorize African Americans. This was the start of this huge racial divide between white and black people.

From 1865 to 1867, the Era of Reconstruction was a period of time in which a variety of groups of people reacted and responded to the lingering effects of the Civil War. The most prominent theme of Reconstruction was civil rights for Black Americans. The movement had both supporters and antagonizers (such as the Ku Klux Klan formed in the south). Although amendments were being passed and laws were being formed to technically support Black Americans, the lingering presence of racism and support for slavery was enough to almost entirely negate a true sense of democracy and confirm the large extent to which there was conflict in America.

we may know a thing or 2 about the post Civil War life, which was the Reconstruction Period. oddly enough, it was known as a rise and a downfall in U.S. history. since this was after slavery was condemned, black Americans were slowly gaining freedom/rights. for example, they would gain U.S. citizenships and voting rights, due to the 14th and 15th amendments. all that being said, there were still racists white people in the South, in which they formed a very notorious organization known as the KKK. if we were to put ourselves in the black American perspective, we would think that it was all sunshine and rainbows from here on out, but the KKK was giving it a harder time for them to make that happen.

After the Civil War, conflict over the humanity of all Americans lived on. Slavery was abolished, but the recently freed still found themselves surrounded by people who hated their very existence and their rights were still unprotected. This led to laws passed by Republicans in Congress that would protect African Americans' rights. At the same time, organizations like the KKK were formed to stall the efforts of the government through violence and fear. There was even conflict within the government. After Linlcoln's death, President Johnson became the president. Johnson had very different views on racial equality than Lincoln and he tried to work against the congressional Republicans. It's often argued whether this time between The Civil War and WW1 was a time of progress or a time of decline in the US. On one hand, slavery had been abolished and many African Americans even became government officials. On the other hand, the resistance to black people's rights formed organizations and manifestations of white supremacy that committed horrible crimes and many former slaves found themselves in situations not much better than they had previously experienced. They couldn't find work and their lives were threatened from day to day.

The period following the Civil War, also known as "Reconstruction", was one of both progress and decline in American history. After the abolition of slavery, the push for racial equality among both African Americans and white allies in the North led congress to pass acts granting new rights to Black Americans, such as the citizenship rights and voting rights in the 14th ad 15th amendments. However, in an attempt to keep control over the government and economy, Southern white supremacists turned to violence and established terror organizations such as the Klu Klux Klan. Congress also passed laws that limited the rights of formerly enslaved people, such as the implementation of poll taxes and the Grandfather Clause. Reconstruction was also a period of government corruption and rapidly advancing capitalism, causing turmoil and unrest among American society.

The era of Reconstruction was a time period of drastic change in America, change that made America both more and less democratic. After the abolishment of slavery, one of the biggest obstacles was integrating the black population into society as American citizens. The passing of the 14th and 15th amendment helped with this transition greatly as it granted African Americans rights that they had been denied and they were finally recognized as citizens. However, these changes were anything but smooth. White Southerners revolted against these new laws and turned to violence and terrorism in an attempt to stop black citizens from exercising these new rights. Such violence led to secret organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and new laws that prevented African Americans from freely practicing the new rights that they had been granted.

And although Black Americans were able to finally go to school and even vote, woman's suffrage still wasn't being supported, which makes the power of democracy a decline at that space. Better changes that were introduced were the freedom of slaves/ex-slaves, as well as giving black men the power to vote, and give black citizens the chance to gain an education.

Reconstruction after the civil war was the start of a battle for power between the Northern and Southern states, and white and black Americans. Black Americans legally weren't slaves anymore, so they were seen as nothing. Segregation started to grow, the southern states refused the idea of being on the same plane as slaves, and the laws just made them even angrier. Creating the K.K.K, a way they can publicly express their hate towards the new changes.

After decades of simmering tensions between northern and southern states over slavery, states’ rights and westward expansion, the Civil War in the United States erupted. The secession of several southern states was spurred by the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, ultimately ending in Confederate surrender in 1865. Mid-19th century, while the United States was experiencing an era of tremendous growth, known as Reconstruction, a drastic economic difference existed between the North and South. In the North, manufacturing and industry was well established, and agriculture was mostly limited to small-scale farms, while the South’s economy was disrupted once the 13th amendment eradicated systems of large-scale farming that depended on the labor of Black enslaved people. In an effort to stitch back their racist economy and under the administration of President Andrew Johnson in 1865 and 1866, southern state legislatures passed restrictive “Black Codes” to control the labor and behavior of former enslaved people and other African Americans. Congressional republicans passed the Reconstruction Act of 1867 in which newly enfranchised Black people gained a voice in government for the first time in American history (Black suffrage), winning election to southern state legislatures and even to the U.S. Congress. In less than a decade, however, reactionary forces (Ku Klux Klan) would reverse the changes fought so graciously by Radical Reconstruction in a violent backlash that restored white supremacy in the South.

The American Civil War was an eruption of already rising tensions between Northern states and Southern states. As common knowledge goes, the end of the war saw the abolition of slavery in the United States. Although still bitter from their loss, the Southern Confederacy joined back with the rest of the country. Three amendments were passed for the Constitution in order to halt slavery in the country. Reconstruction took a while in order to get back into some form of normalcy. However, after slavery had hitched out of America, segregation flooded in. The Southern states' economy relied heavily on slave labor on large plantations, and so with the loss of hands, their economy began to struggle, making their reconstruction period even more difficult. Many white southerners began to form organizations to "battle" the abolition of slavery, and to terrorize the newly-freed African Americans.

During the construction of the Transcontinental railroad, there were examples of both benefits as well as decline. One example of a benefit was that due to its completion, the railroad allowed for extremely fast transportation, both in terms of people as well as goods. What had once been a 6 month journey had soon become only 7 days, and so the railroad was a prime example of industrilization doing good. However, an example of decline was the loss of buffalo as well as pushing Natives further away from their land. Many tribes depended on the animal to survive, for food, shelter, and clothing. unfortunately, the white settlers killed up to millions of them, resulting in Native Americans struggling to get by. The creation of the rail road also scared other animals away and took up their space, so basically, the railroad caused a massive disruption in their way of life.
