After slavery had been abolished, African Americans were seeing a new light. 3 different amendments were written. The first amendment abolished slavery, the 14th grating African American's the right to be a citizen if they were born in the US, and the 15th granting African American Men the right to vote. Although all of these things were major major steps towards a more democratic society, we can also see clear examples of decline because the problem still exists. As these rights were slowly given to African Americans, southerners and others that were upset about this decided to take matters into their own hands.
