She has been involved with “Ice Cream for Breakfast,” a “Swag It Out” music video that donated profit to Pastry! (a charity that buys toys for impoverished children), “Toys for Tots,” “Friends for Change,” book bag drives in which she donated the book bags for her 16th and 17th birthday instead of receiving gifts, and the “Convoy of Hope: where she began a campaign to raise one million dollars to fight the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Zendaya found herself in the midst of controversy after the 2015 Academy Awards and the way that she handled it showed a wisdom beyond her years. After E!’s Fashion Policehost Giuliana Rancic made a comment about Zendaya’s dreadlocks looking like they’d smell of weed and patchouli, Zendaya replied with this thoughtful and eloquent Tweet. Her response wasn’t just about sticking up for herself (an important lesson for young women in its own right) but also about fighting against the ignorant stereotypes that perpetuate racism.
