         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the book, they keep talking about family and how much he loves his family. he wants to be with his father again<br><br>Quotes:<br>“I decided to give my father lessons in marching in step, in keeping time. We began practicing in front of our block. I would command: ‘Left, right!’ and my father would try… But my father did not make sufficient progress, and the blows continued to rain on him.” (pg. 55)<br><br>Analysis: He loves his father and doesn't want to give his tooth away but he loves his father more than his gold tooth and wants his father to live with him through the war<br><br>“Unfortunately, Franek knew how to handle this; he knew my weak spot. My father had never served in the military and could not march in step. But here, whenever we moved from one place to another, it was in step." (pg.73)<br><br>Analysis: He knew that he cared about his so he used it against him so he gets his gold tooth from him.<br><br>“We had to give in. That day, Franek burst into savage laughter. I knew it, I knew that I would win better late than never.”<br>(pg 74)<br><br>Analysis:<br>Elie tried to help his father so he won't get beat up. His father wasn't able to be able to march correctly so Elie had to give his gold tooth away</div>]]></description>

         <title>Scared</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<blockquote>In the book he is almost always scared about something and every one is telling him not to be scared but he has a hard time not being scared.</blockquote><div><br>Quotes:</div><div>"Run as if you had the devil at your heels! Don't look at the S.S. run, straight in front of you"<br>"and most importantly don't be afraid"<br> (pg 71)<br><br></div><div><br><br>Analysis:</div><div>Elie tries to not be scared but he is worried about his father and himself because if he dies then there is no one to take care of his father. He also wants to make it home and finish his life<br><br></div><blockquote>"My head was spinning: you are too skinny you are too weak you are too skinny, you are good for the ovens The race seemed endless; I felt as though I had been running for years You are too skinny, you are too weak At last I arrived.Exhausted."</blockquote><div> (pg 72)<br>  Analysis: He was scared that he was not going fast enough and what people thought and is scared of death and no one able to take care of his father<br><br></div><blockquote>"I wanted to run away, but my feet were nailed to the floor. Idek grabbed me by the throat. Hissing at me he threatened: just wait, kid you'll pay for this later and now go back to your place." (pg 75)</blockquote><div><br>Analysis: He wanted to run away because he was scared but he couldn't and didn't know what will happen to him when the time comes.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the book it talks about him getting through the hard times even when he thinks he can't make it<br>Quote:</div><blockquote>"When I became concision of myself again, I tried to slow my pace somewhat.but there was no way these human waves rolling forward and would crush me like an ant"<br>(pg 105) </blockquote><div>Analysis: He  doesn't want die so he keeps going even though he is really hungry and tired. He wants to live past the war because he thinks he has a lot more to do in his life<br><br></div><blockquote>"And something inside of me rebelled against death, death which was settling all around me,silently, gently."</blockquote><div> (pg 107<br><br>Analysis: He doesn't want to die yet and he pushes through hard times even when they are dim. He still believes that has has more to do in this world.<br><br></div><blockquote>"No! I yelled. He's not dead. Not yet. And I started to hit him harder and harder. At last, my father half opened his eyes. They were glassy. He was breathing faintly. You see I cried."</blockquote><div><br>Analysis: he was persevering because he didn't want his father to die. He didn't want to be alone and wants to survive with his father</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
